Position Summary

The Housing Specialist plays a key role in fostering a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for residents of the YMCA’s Men’s Dormitory and Single Room Occupancy (SRO) housing. Reporting to the Senior Director, this individual serves as a friendly and professional point of contact for residents, visitors, and service providers while helping to maintain a clean, safe, and mission-centered environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service in person and on the phone to residents, visitors, and healthcare/case management professionals.
  • Handle rental payments, lockouts, administrative support tasks, and maintain accurate records.
  • Monitor safety, enforce house rules, and respond to emergencies with calm and professionalism.
  • Support resident move-ins and participate in applicant interviews.
  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the workspace and surrounding areas.
  • Conduct regular room safety checks and communicate resident needs or concerns to leadership.
  • Actively promote the YMCA’s mission, programs, and fundraising campaigns.

What We’re Looking For

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience or background in social work preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively amid distractions and interruptions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn new software systems.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting through the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).

Full time: Mon - Fri - 8:30 - 5:00 pm with occasional weekend shift to accommodate needs. 

Compensation: $20.00 - $22.00 depending on experience
