About the Department
Reporting directly to a Juvenile Services Shift Supervisor, responsible for providing direct care supervision to youth in pre- and post-adjudication facilities using trauma-informed practices. Functions as lead Supervision Officer, acting in a supervisory capacity in the absence of an assigned shift supervisor. Level II of II in Juvenile Supervision.
Position Duties
- Frequently performs supervisory duties in the absence of assigned shift supervisor
- Supervises and redirects youth behavior using appropriate trauma-focused interventions when necessary
- Oversees the daily activities of residents (i.e. education, physical education, group activities, hygiene, housekeeping chores, meals, visitations, etc.)
- Conducts and/or coordinates social casework activities
- Performs intake, admission, and release of residents and completes all necessary paperwork
- Completes all daily documentation reports, including youth behavior and progress reports
- Operates departmental and personal vehicles to transport residents as needed
- Maintains a clean and safe living environment in designated facility
- Performs special duties as assigned

- Position involves performing non-violent physical restraint

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Maximum security facility behind locked doors
- Continuous contact with youth accused of or adjudicated for various crimes
- Work is primarily conducted indoors in air-conditioned building
- May be required to perform some work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, wet conditions)
IRREGULAR HOURS
- May occasionally serve on-call
- Requires flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and/or weekend hours
- Deemed essential personnel
- Essential personnel for emergency situations; discretion of department director
- Regular attendance is required

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of experience working with and providing direct care to youth (i.e. teaching, counseling, coaching, mentoring, etc.)
- Must be at least 21 years of age per Texas Administrative Code Section 344.200
- Must not have a disqualifying criminal history as defined in Texas Administrative Code Chapter 344
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required within thirty (30) days of employment
- Valid Texas driver’s license
Required within six (6) months of employment
- Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) Juvenile Supervision Officer certification
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
- First aid certification
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
- Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) trained
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Prior experience supervising staff
