About the Department
To perform as the lead cashier/receptionist for a City recreation facility involving the continual monitoring and leadership of the front desk staff as well as a variety of reception duties including operating a multi-line telephone, greeting, screening and assisting customers. Access control, class registration, and cash handling and accounting. Equipment, concessions and merchandise sales. To perform routine clerical duties and a variety of related tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Position Duties
- Assist with oversight of Cashier/Receptionists at the recreation facility including staff orientation, training, monitoring and scheduling while on shift.
- Assist with administrative duties including the development and distribution of flyers.
- General public reception by telephone and in-person. Perform and oversees access control and monitor computer systems.
- Greet and assist the public in a courteous and responsive manner; provide information and directions for the City’s attractions; locate staff, direct visitors to scheduled meetings.
- Perform as well as oversee front desk staff on class registrations, facility admissions, merchandise sales, locker and facility rentals on the computer, involving cash handling and accounting.
- Review and correct any RecTrac inputting errors and import WebTrac information to keep the data base current.
- Operate a wide variety of office equipment including computers, typewriters, copiers and facsimile machines.
- Assist with the establishment and enforcement of policies for the recreation facility.
- Assists with inventories and equipment for the recreation facility.
- Assists with cleanliness of the facility.
- Continually update and organize display case and bulletin boards.
- Assist with recreation facility building oversight.
- Assist with administrative duties.
Other Duties:
- Attend and participate in professional meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of recreation and facility management.
- Perform “Manager on Duty” responsibilities on a rotational basis.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Knowledge of:
- Operations, services and activities of a municipal recreation facility.
- Modern and complex principles and practices of recreation services and facility management.
- Modern office procedures, methods and equipment, including computerized cash register, ten key adding machine, copiers, and facsimile machines.
- Mathematical principles and practices.
- Cash handling techniques.
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a cash register, computer, ten key adding machine, copier, and facsimile machine.
- Operate a multi-line telephone system and direct calls appropriately.
- Deal effectively and diplomatically with the public.
- Interpret and explain City policies and procedures.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Operate a computer and relevant software programs.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for successful job performance.
- Maintain mental capacity that allows the capability of effectively interacting and communicating with others.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in a typical indoor office setting; Mostly sedentary with periods of mobility and light physical activity.
Physical Activities:
- Ability to effectively interact with other individuals, (co-workers, public, children, etc.);
- Use and normal maintenance of office machines, (copier, computer, printer, fax, etc.);
- Handling of files weighing up to 10# including floor to waist and overhead lifting;
- Ability to lift, push and move office supplies weighing up to 50#;
- Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, reach, carry, grasp and turn objects;
- Ability to climb stairs; and stand, sit and walk for up to 60 minutes at a time;
- Frequent use of phone handset and repetitive use of hand & fingers to take messages, operate office equipment, use computer keyboard & computer mouse and to perform other office tasks;
- Acceptable eyesight to read printed material & a computer monitor and to operate office equipment;
- Acceptable hearing to communicate with others in person or through telephonic means;
- Acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others via the phone, at meetings and to greet and assist visitors.
Minimum Qualifications
Education or Formal Training and Licenses: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid CPR/AED and First Aid Certificate.
Experience: One year of customer service and clerical experience, including cash handling.
