About the Department
This is an internal posting for candidates who are already employed at Northwest Missouri State University. Only faculty who hold a full-time, ranked or titled faculty position in Chemistry at Northwest Missouri State University will be considered for the position.
Employment Terms: Nine-month position concurrent with the holder’s faculty position
Position Duties
The Calvin and Marilyn Goeders Endowed Professorship in Chemistry:
1. Is a title of recognition used in place of a faculty member’s continuing rank status by recommendation of the Dean of the College of Agriculture & Natural Sciences and appointment by the Provost.
2. Provides special recognition to the named faculty member for continuing exemplary service to the field of chemistry based on outstanding teaching, creative/scholarly activity, by professional organizations for outstanding contributions to the field, and service contributions that are recognized beyond the regional level.
3. Has the purpose of the endowed professorship to retain, reward, or attract individuals identified as outstanding educators and leaders in the field of chemistry.
4. Recognizes individuals who are considered role models for faculty, staff and students.
5. Recognizes a high level of productivity and impact during an extended period in the field of chemistry that meets current tenure and promotion standards at Northwest Missouri State University.
6. Is held for a three-year term.
7. Is eligible for faculty who hold a full-time ranked or titled faculty position in Chemistry at Northwest Missouri State University.
Minimum Qualifications
The holder of this endowed professorship is entitled to:
1. Identification with the name of the professorship in all University releases or publications in which the faculty member’s name appears.
2. An annual adjustment to the individual’s salary.
3. Utilize endowment funds to support the purchase of equipment and/or supplies, support professional development or enhance chemistry education at Northwest Missouri State University (approved by the Chair of the School of Natural Sciences and the Dean of the College of Agriculture & Natural Sciences.
Expectations of the Endowed Professorship:
1. The holder of the Goeders Professorship is expected to maintain exceptional levels of productivity teaching, service, and scholarship appropriate to their rank or title.
2. The Geoders Professor will conduct a special presentation on a topic selected by the incumbent annually for faculty and/or students.
3. The Goeders Professor will provide to the Chair of the School of Natural Sciences annually with a brief report summarizing major activities and accomplishments in the previous year. The Chair will send the report to the Northwest Foundation, with a copy to the Dean of the College of Agriculture & Natural Sciences and the Provost, for forwarding to the donor of the endowment.
4. Other expectations may apply in accordance with the University “Guidelines for the Appointment of Endowed Chairs, Professorships, and Faculty Fellowships.”
Selection Process:
1. Candidates need to submit the following items in NEOGOV.
· Application for the Calvin and Marilyn Goeders Professorship in Chemistry
· Current vita
· One-page document addressing “How the endowment will improve teaching, creative/scholarly activity, and/or service at Northwest Missouri State University?”
2. Contact information for three references.
3. The provost in consultation with the dean will establish an ad hoc review committee of three people to review the nominations.
4. The review committee will evaluate the supporting evidence and may seek feedback from the list of names submitted by the nominator or from other eminent scholars qualified to evaluate the nominee. The committee will make a recommendation to the provost who will determine the appointment of the Calvin and Marilyn Goeders Endowed Professorship in Chemistry.
