Description
The Quality Control / Ready-Mix Driver is primarily responsible for performing quality control duties, including inspection, testing, and documentation of concrete and related materials at plant facilities and job sites. This role also involves evaluating test results and assisting with adjustments to mix designs to ensure products meet required specifications and project standards.
When not actively performing quality control tasks, this position will operate as a Ready-Mix Driver, safety driving and operate an assigned ready-mix or material truck. This position is also responsible for ensuring the proper service and maintenance is performed on the assigned truck.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Control (Primary Duties):
- Develop mix designs for products to customers or engineer’s requirements using previous data and guidelines.
- Use accepted methods to inspect, sample, and test product for the purpose of quality control: including basic air, slump, and moisture testing.
- Monitor and test process functions and materials daily to ensure our products meet or exceed requirements of the appropriate project.
- Visit job sites, attend meetings and call customers promoting value-added products and collect market and job information.
- Follow quality control plans and guidelines assigned.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and perform general cleaning of work area.
- Liaises among customers, sales, and operations to ensure internal and external customers’ needs are met.
- Complete, maintain, and process pertinent paperwork and records.
- Follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures.
- Other duties as assigned per supervisor.
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
- Act as a liaison between the Iowa DOT and Ideal Ready Mix ensuring all paperwork is up to date.
Ready-Mix Driver:
- Drive on public roadways and construction sites in accordance with safe and prudent practice, DOT regulations, public safety laws, OSHA regulations, and the Company’s Safety Program.
- Operate and deliver materials on assigned vehicles in a safe, legal, efficient, and professional manner without additional training.
- Verify specification and order compliance for the materials delivered.
- Operate assigned vehicle in accordance with the manufacturers' recommendations, Company policies and procedures, and safe practice.
- Take special efforts to satisfy client requirements.
- Complete and submit all executed delivery orders.
- Use sound judgment in all driving and site conditions. Drive safely and carefully. Comply with all traffic laws. Adjust driving to the conditions. Take all necessary precautions to protect assigned vehicles and other’s property.
- Frequently report to the dispatcher using correct communication procedures concerning delivery status and properly operate the vehicle’s “status box.”
- Accurately complete daily "Pre-trip" and "Post-trip" Inspection Reports for all assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Keep assigned trucks and equipment in a safe and proper mechanical condition, correctly maintained and clean inside and outside. Insure the proper servicing and maintenance of assigned vehicle. Perform minor repairs and service when necessary.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on assigned truck and equipment as directed, including greasing, hose changing, bolt tightening, etc.
- Perform duties as directed related to assigned vehicle, the plant and plant site.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid CLD with appropriate endorsements required; must meet company and DOT driving record standards (no moving violations within the last 6 months).
- Previous experience in heavy truck driving, construction, or ready-mix operations preferred.
- Experience in concrete materials, testing, or quality control preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read, write and accurately perform basic mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must consistently produce efficient, accurate, and high-quality work.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures, including safety protocols
- Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations related to driving and construction work.
- Must be able to perform physical duties including lifting, climbing, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.

Work Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a current and valid driver’s license; CDL required for driving responsibilities
- Must pass post-offer employment screenings including drug test, background check, DOT physical, and physical abilities testing.
- You must have a personal telephone or cell phone for communication purposes.
- Availability to work nights and weekends as needed to meet project demands.
- Must display a professional and courteous attitude toward coworkers, supervisors, and the public always.
- Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operation and production areas as required by OSHA and/of MSHA.

- Must be able to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, bend, and balance regularly.
- Must have unrestricted mobility to move in all directions and maneuver in tight or combined spaces.
- Must be able to repetitively climb ladders and in and out of a high cab (up to 50 times per day).
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds frequently and operate tools weighing up to 20 pounds for extended durations.
- May be required to sit for long periods while operating vehicle or performing lab tasks.
- Vision (with or without correction) must include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must have normal hearing, quick reaction time, eye-hand coordination, and manual dexterity.
- Must tolerate exposure to a variety of conditions, including wind, dust, fumes, odors, and all types of weather (heat, cold, rain, snow)
- Must not have allergic sensitivities to concrete, asphalt, raw materials, fuels, lubricants, solvents or cleaning agents.
- Skeletal, joint, and muscle systems must tolerate the impacts and movements associated with frequent driving and physical labor.
- Must be able to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and in various environments as required by job duties.

- Work schedule is Monday through Friday with weekend, and some holiday and evening work required.
