Job Description

Outreach & Promotion: 75%
  • Assist with outreach and promotional efforts for the Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships through targeted emails, newsletters, social media, online content, etc.
  • Create handouts, flyers, social media graphics, etc.
  • Create social media caption content.
  • Draft and/or proofread news releases to publish in KU News
Event & Operational Logistics: 15%
  • Organize and assist with event logistics for Rising Scholars annual events, fall and spring recognition events, workshops, etc.
  • Help track faculty fellow appointment data.
Office Administration: 10%
  • Welcome students and other constituents visiting Summerfield 203 and assist with front office administration; provide exceptional customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated computer competency (Microsoft Office Suite) and capacity to learn new software systems as detailed in resume.
  2. Strong attention to detail as evidenced through previous experience and application materials.
  3. Strong communication skills as evidenced in application materials and interview.

Advertised Salary Range

$10.50/hr

  1. Familiarity with undergraduate research and/or nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships
  2. Experience with public relations, outreach, social media, etc. as demonstrated in the application materials
  3. Experience creating/designing handouts, social media graphics, etc. as demonstrated in the application materials
  4. Experience with Adobe products and/or other design tools as demonstrated in the application materials
  5. Experience in event planning as demonstrated in the application materials
  6. Previous customer service experience as demonstrated in the application materials
  7. Eligible for Federal Work Study through KU Financial Aid

Position Overview

The student hourly for the Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships provides administrative and communications support for strategic priorities related to undergraduate research and nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships. The student hourly is responsible for supporting outreach and communication efforts, event planning, and office operations. This position uses a breadth of KU-approved systems to complete work, including but not limited to, Adobe Express and other Adobe products, Emma HQ for newsletter development, Microsoft 365 products, and more. The student hourly will also help coordinate and participate in campus events such as information fairs, workshops, and recognition receptions. This position reports to the associate director of the Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or be enrolled in summer session or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
 

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
