JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher, the Instructional Paraprofessional provides general instructional and teaching assistance. The employee may perform a wide range of technical and clerical tasks to support the teacher's efforts and meet the needs of all students. Tasks and jobs will vary depending upon the school's needs, instructional areas, grade levels, type of students, including assisting in special education self-contained classes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.

Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students; monitors student attitudes and encourages self-esteem; assists students with becoming increasingly independent.

Demonstrate the ability to observe and assist individual students that are experiencing difficulties.

Demonstrate the ability to perform supplemental instruction or tasks to reinforce learning initiated by the teacher.

Be able to work with students requiring individual or close attention, read to children, listen to their reactions, and suggest improvements.

Monitor groups of students engaged in drawing, writing, independent study, or similar work.

Monitor student behavior and helps maintain discipline.

Effectively supervise playground activities, monitors students in the cafeteria, rest periods, comes on and off buses, or goes to and from areas.

Assist students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instructions; conducts short sessions on improving study skills; provides one-on-one assistance as needed.

Maintain standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students.

Perform general housekeeping duties in maintaining a neat and orderly enviornment; performs repair and maintenance tasks related to school equipment.

Arrange for field trips (permission slips, arrangement of transportation, etc.), speakers/presenters, and related educational activities; accompanies class on field trips as required

Perform various clerical duties as needed.

Perform any duties within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by the Superintendent or the direct supervisor.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be able to use various equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, equipment for children with special needs, etc.

Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.

Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.

Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.

Exhibit a personality that shows enthusiasm for students and the learning process.

Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.

Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in education.

Demonstrate the ability to use computers for word processing, data management, and telecommunications, proficient in Microsoft Office suite programs.

Demonstrate the ability to operate and effectively use other technologies..

Demonstrates confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities with proven experience.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Instructional Paraprofessionals must complete at least one of the following three requirements:
At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or
An associate degree (or higher); or
Pass an approved state or local academic assessment that measures the Paraprofessional's knowledge and ability to assist in instruction at the appropriate level.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical requirements described here represent those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job successfully and are not all-inclusive. The District will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the job's essential duties.

The following are physical requirements:
Ability to lift to 25 pounds.

Must be able to navigate various physical environments of the District's premises.

Be able to sit or stand at a desk for prolonged periods while operating a computer or other office machinery.

Pass the State required intradermal tuberculin test.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The environmental demands described here represent those that an employee encounters while performing the essential responsibilities of this role and are not meant to be all-inclusive. The following are examples:

Indoor and outdoor with varying temperatures.

Facilities and rooms with a variety of heated and air-conditioned spaces

Will be subject to possible exposure to various types of chemicals used for cleaning, instruction, or equipment operation.

Noise level is generally moderate but may heighten under various circumstances.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:
The following are the terms of employment.

Work year -days to be set by the Principal and according to the grant.

EVALUATION:
According to applicable school district policies, the Principal and the Supervising Teacher will evaluate the Instructional Paraprofessional on this job description and other potential measurement methods utilized to evaluate success.
