Portledge School was founded in 1965 and is located on the beautiful North Shore of Long Island. Job Description:
Portledge School seeks to hire a part-time Student Lunch Monitor to help supervise students ranging from 6th grade to 12th grade during all lunch periods in the dining room on Mondays from 10:15am-2:15pm and on Tuesdays-Fridays from 10:30am-1:30pm. This is a part-time, 10-month position operating during days that classes are in session from September to June in a typical school year. The Student Lunch Monitor will report to the Dean of Students and will be supported by the Upper School Deans and MS Director.
Responsibilities:
Supervise students in grades 6 - 12 in the dining room on a daily basis
Assist with preparing the dining room for lunch as needed
Assist with maintaining dining room cleanliness during lunch times as needed
Ensure that students are behaving appropriately at all times in the dining room
Encourage students to maintain cleanliness of the dining room and discard any garbage prior to the end of their lunch time
Assist with clearing the dining room following lunch
Refer middle school behavioral concerns to the MS Director and upper school behavioral concerns to the Dean of Students and US Deans
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Ability to lift and push at least 25 lbs.
Ability to bend, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
Experience in an educational setting preferred
Experience working with children in grades 6-12 preferred
Strong communication skills with both children and adults
Ability to problem solve and make quick decisions
Ability to comfortably, warmly, and effectively engage with large and small groups of adults and/or students in professional or social settings
Belief in the value of all types of diversity with a commitment to social justice and equity
CPR and First Aid certification preferred
