Hospice Spiritual & Volunteer Coordinator
This dual position is full-time Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., with weekends as needed to meet spiritual needs of hospice residents and families. The Hospice Spiritual & Volunteer Coordinator oversees the provision of spiritual care and grief/bereavement services to patients and their families receiving Hospice care either directly or through coordination of care with other spiritual counselors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Complete prompt spiritual assessment and initiation of proper services for patients, families, and caregivers in the hospice program. Provide direct spiritual care to patients and families/caregivers. May receive requests for spiritual care consultation anytime day or night via telephone or in person.
- Attend patient care conferences and interdisciplinary group meetings. Facilitate development of an interdisciplinary group plan of care to meet identified spiritual and volunteer needs.
- Plan and oversee the delivery of volunteer services within the Hospice Department: Interview and select volunteers; Design and provide orientation of Hospice volunteers; Assign volunteers on basis of program needs, interest/skills and patient/family needs; Assure volunteers compliance with policies and procedures; Monitor and evaluate volunteer performance.
- Provide for funeral or memorial services for patients as asked; plan periodic memorial services to meet the needs of personnel, volunteers, and community clergy/spiritual counselors working with the hospice team.

- Recruit community chaplains, spiritual counselors, and volunteers adequate to meet patient and family/caregiver needs by developing community contacts and offering education about hospice care and programming needs.
EDUCATION
- Graduated from an accredited seminary or school of theology (preferred).
- Ordained minister in good status with the denomination for which he/she was ordained without restrictions or subject to any disciplinary or corrective action.

- Must have strong communication skills, leadership ability, emotional ability, and high professional standards of care.
- Comfort within an interfaith setting.
- Ability to accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
- Knowledge of and commitment to Hospice philosophy of care.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Two (2) years’ experience counseling or collaborating with individuals, families, and caregivers related to death and dying.
- Knowledge of hospice programs desirable.
- Basic computer skills.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Satisfactory motor vehicle driving record as defined by the agency and its insurance providers.
- Proof of motor vehicle insurance.
