The Director of Cardiopulmonary is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and management of the cardiopulmonary department, which typically includes respiratory therapy, EKG, stress testing, and other heart-lung diagnostic services. This role ensures high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient departmental operations. The Director leads a multidisciplinary team, collaborates with physicians and administrators, manages budgets, and implements policies to enhance clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Directing and coordinating the activities of the cardiopulmonary department to ensure patient care is efficient, effective, and meets regulatory requirements.
- Developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures.
- Supervising, training, and evaluating the performance of cardiopulmonary staff.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and maintaining quality assurance.
- Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Overseeing the department’s budget, including purchasing and inventory management.
- Staying updated on the latest advancements in cardiopulmonary care and integrating relevant changes into department procedures.
- Facilitating communication and coordination among team members and other departments within the healthcare facility.
- Manage and maintain adequate supplies as needed for the department.
Position Skills & Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and must clearly demonstrate all required competencies. The education/experience, certifications, skills, physical demands, and work environment described below further define requirements associated with this position. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills required. Strong relationship and communication with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and clinical leaders required. Continual industry and job specific education required.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in respiratory care, Health Administration or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current state licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
Compliance and Regulatory:

This includes, but is not limited to federal, state and local laws, applicable State Departments of Health, Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), The Joint Commission, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and LCMH Policies and Procedures. All employees are required to be compliant with hand hygiene guidelines as well as to adhere to safe practices, identify and report unsafe practices.
