Job Summary
The Disaster Planner is responsible for the coordination of the emergency management activities within the hospital organizational structure and implementation of all Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) grant requirements in the facility, compliance with CMS Emergency Management regulations and The Joint Commission standards for Emergency Management in addition to assist with the overall disaster preparedness activities of the facility and managing all aspects of trauma surge activities. These activities include planning, implementation and coordination of activities to enhance surge capacity within the Trauma Center with an emphasis on developing capacity for disaster patients with trauma.
Licensure and Certification:
- Emergency Management certification preferred.
Education:
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- RN with BSN preferred and minimum of 2 years of ED or Trauma or
- LVN with 3 years ED and or Trauma experience or
- An RN or LVN with 1 to 2 years in a position of disaster preparedness in a hospital setting or
- Individual with sufficient experience in the field of emergency prep/disaster planning and acute care hospital, to be determined by employer.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of TJC Emergency Management standards
- Knowledge about emergency preparedness and disaster planning
Knowledge and skill to oversee decontamination team training and exercises
Physical Demands – Clerical/Administrative Non-Patient Care:
· Frequent sitting and standing/walking with frequent position change.
· Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and chest level.
· Occasional/intermittent reaching at or above shoulder level.
· Occasional/intermittent bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
· Occasional/intermittent lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
· Continuous use of near vision, hearing and verbal communication skills in handling telephone calls, interacting with customers and co-workers and performing job duties.
