DESCRIPTION:
The Cardiac Echocardiography Technologist is responsible for carrying out inpatient and outpatient echocardiograms across all KHSC sites.  In addition to adult echocardiography the technologist is required to carry out pediatric and neonatal echocardiography.  The technologist is responsible for proper use and maintenance of the ultrasound equipment.

 

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston General Hospital strategy.  As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

 

 

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Independently perform adult transthoracic echocardiograms & Doppler
  • Independently perform pediatric and neonatal transthoracic studies
  • Independently perform exercise stress echocardiograms
  • Assist with transesophageal echocardiograms.
  • Assist with intra-operative echocardiograms.
  • Independently perform fetal echocardiograms.
  • Ability to administer contrast for studies
  • Teach physicians as well as ultrasound students.
  • Participate in an on-call schedule.
  • Attend and give required In-service lectures.
  • Travel to all KHSC sites, contracted sites, and satellite site as required

 


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario
  • Completion of Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program
  • RDCS registration with ARDMS an asset
  • Valid driver’s license with the willingness and ability to travel to all KHSC sites
  • Current certification in CPR
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.

The applicant must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
