Manchester School District is looking for School Nurses at the following schools:

McDonough Elementary

Webster Elementary

Hillside Middle

McLaughlin Middle

Parkside Middle

 

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing;
  • Considerable experience in school, pediatric or general nursing; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Registered Nurse in New Hampshire
  • Valid New Hampshire Driver's License
  • State of New Hampshire School Nurse I, II or III Certification
  • CPR & First Aid Instructor Certification.  

  

As a school nurse you will:

  • Promote and maintain the health of school children, their families, and school staff
  • Provide care, prevention, education, and counseling
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional and medical providers, municipal officials, school officials, clients, and the public.


Specific Core Function of a School Nurse:

Performs a variety of professional and administrative nursing duties in a school environment; performs directly related work as required. The principal function of an employee in this class is to promote and maintain the health of school children, their families, and staff through care, prevention and counseling. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor but extensive leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. This class is distinguished from the class of School Nurse II by professional certification and the knowledge and skills to provide training, as well as technical support. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional and medical providers, municipal officials, school officials, clients and the public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a high volume and high stress school environment with potential exposure to infectious agents and illicit drugs.



Responsibilities of a School Nurse:

  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, principles and techniques of school health nursing;
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable federal, state and municipal laws, regulations, and policies relating to school nursing;
  • Substantial knowledge of training the adult learner;
  • Substantial knowledge of counseling practices and techniques;
  • Thorough knowledge of and the ability to develop, organize and administer school nursing health programs;
  • Thorough knowledge of information systems and hardware;
  • Skill in the use and operation of medical apparatus, equipment, and screening instruments;
  • Skill in the development, organization, and performance of required screening tests and client support services and programs;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions;
  • Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations;
  • Ability to operate or quickly leam to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks;
  • Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions;

School Nurse Schedule:

  • Up to 8 hours per day for the school year, plus additional days to open and close the nurse’s office.
  • No nights, weekends, or holidays.
  • School Vacations Off

Specified Length/Hours of a School Nurse:

This is an affiliated (AFSCME Health Union) position under the School Nurse negotiated contract, following the school calendar with additional workshop days.  Compensation commensurate with experience as stated in the contract.
