Reporting to the Director of R&D, this role will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of thermal and cooling system development processes, from concept and testing to execution and maintenance of data centers. The successful individual will perform thermal analysis, test processes, monitor system performances and identify areas that can be improved for greater efficiency. The individual will learn about a variety of new technologies which can shape the data center industry for decades to come. We are looking for a driven Thermal Engineer that is passionate about this profession and wants to be a team leader on one of the world’s global leaders in liquid cooling solutions and services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Conducts liquid cooling experiments in high-end cold plate/rack/Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU)/Immersion cooling tank within lab and data center environments.
● Works with other engineers from concept, design, prototype, and production to ensure liquid cooling solutions meet product requirements.
● Collaborates with vendors and partners to plan, design, and build test fixtures and prototypes.
● Conducts thermal calculations and analysis on heat transfer, energy balance, pressure drop and fluid dynamics for data centers systems or sub-systems.
● Responsible for subsystem-level and system-level thermal performance evaluations and optimizations.
● Works with the engineering teams and external vendors to support the startup and commissioning of our products.
● Acts in a manner consistent with LiquidStack’s core values and according to LiquidStack’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethical Behavior.
● Complies with standards and procedures of LiquidStack’s health and safety manual and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
● A minimum MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering (PhD preferred)
● 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in data center liquid cooling R&D and testing environments.
● HVAC / Air Conditioning / Refrigeration certificate is considered an asset.
● Leads all the thermal performance, evaluation, and testing of both single-phase and two-phase liquid cooling projects.
● Establish good working relationships with suppliers to introduce high quality components (e.g., Flow meters, etc.) and manage component/fluid selection process.
● Familiarization with CDU design and ASHRAE Data Center Standards.
● Working experience in AUTOCAD 2D / 3D, SolidWorks and/or similar software.
● Experience with pressure drop simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and thermal analysis software are preferred.
● Strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
● Must have strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
● Able to prioritize competing tasks and keeping to critical deadlines.

● Appreciation to work in a global organization with teammates in different time zones/regions.
● Excellent English communication (verbal & written).
● Willingness and ability to travel globally and domestically up to 10% of the time.
