About the job:
The Staff Accountant will assist the Assistant Controllers with month-end closing for all residential and commercial properties. Complete daily accounting tasks requiring a basic level of accounting knowledge across a variety of responsibilities. Also, will include (but not limited to) posting monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, g/l variance analysis, and development of weekly and monthly financial reports. This role will support with a variety of clerical/office support as well.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform Daily Bank Reconciliations for all residential and commercial properties.
- Perform Credit card monthly reconciliations.
- Download all bank statements and loan statements.
- Execute accurate and timely reporting during the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain depreciation and accrual excel spreadsheets.
- Post Deposits/refunds received and intercompany transfers.
- Ensure that general ledger account and GL coding are correct on all receipts and expenditures.
- Prepare annual 1099’s.
- Assist Assistant Controllers with quarterly inventory counts at properties.
- Prepare Financial Statement packages for ownership.
- Process reclasses received from property managers.
- Monthly calculation and posting of management fees.
- Process Bill backs from corporate to respective properties in portfolio.
- Post Deposits as received.
- Assist with audit functions with payables and receivables.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with business major in accounting.
- 2 years of accounting and financial experience.
- Experience in real estate property management accounting (preferred but not required)
- Knowledge of general reporting and reconciliations
- Ability to function as part of a team and the ability to work independently.
- Must have good time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong data entry skills and good team player
- Must be organized, self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Communication and professional attitude and work ethics.
- Proficient computer skills in Excel, Word, QuickBooks, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience with Yardi Voyage, Yardi Elevate, ResMan, and AvidXchange is preferred.
