About the Department

Responsible for filling critical needs for CCPS by focusing on sourcing, screening, and hiring candidates for licensed and skilled positions including but not limited to teachers, bus drivers, HVAC technicians, food service workers, and custodians. Complex work is performed within specific departmental objectives and policies; the  employee works independently and coordinates with others as necessary. Actions impact the entire system; position requires extensive professional judgment.  

Position Duties

Essential Job Functions:

  • Primary point of contact for sourcing, screening, and hiring for positions including but not limited to: teachers, central office roles, bus drivers, HVAC Technicians, food service workers, custodians, etc.

  • Actively participate in networking events, career fairs, and community engagement.

  • Practices active recruiting through social media marketing, LinkedIn sourcing, phone-calling passive and active candidates, sending email campaigns, and monitoring job posting pipelines.

  • Develop strategies to increase brand awareness and engagement to job postings.

  • Tracks data and results related to specific  job postings.

  • Work collaboratively with the Benefits Office to stay abreast of benefits options. 

  • Actively research skilled positions hiring trends and implement changes to fit those trends.

  • Prepares, organizes, and debriefs large in person and virtual job fair/interview events

  • Maximizes use of the applicant tracking system and provides training for managers on usage.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and school board policies.

  • Travel to job fairs. This role occasionally will require overnight travel. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Report Preparation:  

Prepares ad-hoc reports as requested. 


Equipment Operation: 

Operates computer, copier, fax machine, scanner, microfilm, and other general office equipment

Contacts:  

Frequent contact with school administrators, department heads,  applicants and internal and external stakeholders. 


Work Direction/Supervision: 
Provides limited work direction to support staff in the Recruiting Office. 

Decision Making:  
Performs functions independently. Supervisor is informed of unusual situations.

Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:

Provides feedback Assistant Director with respect to recruiting processes and procedures. 


Physical Demands: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate or handle controls, objects, and or other materials; reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.  The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and drive. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.  

Work Environment:

The employee regularly works in a school or office setting.  The noise level is quiet to moderate.

Minimum Qualifications

Strong working knowledge of current recruiting practices. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, sound business judgment, tact and diplomacy, and the ability to interact with personnel at all levels internally and externally. Requires the ability to self-motivate and work independently. Requires strong ability to assess candidates and administer the interview function. Computer proficiency with MS Office, G Suite and internet search engines. 

Other Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Two or more years experience recruiting passive and active candidates in a human resources or staffing agency environment is preferred.  Prior non-profit experience preferred.  Prior experience using applicant tracking system (ATS) is preferred. 


Ability to travel locally within a specific geographic area; limited travel outside of specific geographic area (some overnight travel may be required). Flexibility to attend recruiting events on evenings and weekends, as needed. Valid VA Driver’s License.
