Salary Range: $60,000 – $65,000 annually (DOE)
Location: Phoenix, AZ – On-Site

We are seeking a Grant Accountant to join our Accounting Team. This role is essential in ensuring accurate billing, compliance, and reporting of our government and local grant funding streams.


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit billing and reimbursement requests for local, state, and federal grants in accordance with funding guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with grant contracts, GAAP, and OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
  • Accurately record and reconcile grant-related accounts receivable, revenue, and expenditures.
  • Maintain thorough documentation to support billings and audits.
  • Work closely with program staff to gather expense data and ensure allowable cost allocations.
  • Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with funders regarding billing, invoicing, and documentation.
  • Assist in preparing grant financial reports, budget vs. actuals, and supporting schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support annual audits and monitoring visits by providing timely and complete documentation.
  • Monitor grant receivables to ensure payments are received timely and follow up on outstanding balances.

Requirements

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 2–3 years of experience with grant accounting, billing, and compliance (federal and local preferred).
  • Strong proficiency with Sage Intacct (required).
  • Knowledge of fund accounting, restricted/unrestricted funds, and cost allocation methods.
  • Ability to work independently with little training, while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with internal teams and external funders.
  • Positive, upbeat, and professional attitude, even in high-stress, evolving environments.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in the nonprofit sector or human services environment.
  • Familiarity with HUD, City, County, and State contracts.
  • Working knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, reconciliations).
  • Experience supporting grant audits and compliance monitoring.
