Overview 

The Educational Technology department at Westminster Theological Seminary provides faculty with white-glove support for all their instructional technology needs. Ed Tech designs, implements, maintains, and refines systems that are easy to use for faculty, students, and staff across campus. Ed Tech supports all Audio/Visual needs for classes, chapel services, special events, and video conferencing. Ed Tech is responsible for the Learning Management System (Canvas) to ensure smooth operation for both students and faculty. Other key systems requiring support are Google, Populi (Student Information System), and Notion. 


The Tech Specialist will be working with supporting the various tech needs of faculty and students. Support may include physical interventions to address on-campus AV and IT needs. This role will assist faculty and students with inquiries they may have relating to our platforms and tools. The Tech Specialist will also know when to escalate matters to the appropriate engineering teams. Finally, the ideal candidate for this role will have an interest in improving processes and developing high-levels of competency in supporting the various first-line technical support needs of the Tech.


Responsibilities 

  • Develop AI workflows, automations and integrations.
  • Write articles for our intranet platform.
  • Respond to Tech support tickets, particularly for Canvas issues.
  • Set up faculty with instructional technology for classes.
  • Tear down classroom A/V according to class schedules. 
  • Provide faculty with any A/V or IT needs as they arise, and training, when applicable.
  • Assist with capturing and livestream chapel services and events in Rust Auditorium.
  • Support conferences or special events with required A/V needs.
  • Maintain, monitor, and periodically test the operation of all built-in A/V systems.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of A/V equipment.
  • Expertise in both Mac and PC environments.
  • Technical proficiency with excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • The motivation to learn and constantly improve processes and tools.
  • A flexible schedule with the ability to work some nights and/or weekends.


Preferred skills 

  • Knowledge of video conferencing platforms and systems, preferably Zoom.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) and Student Information Systems (e.g., Populi), Google Workspace, and Notion. 
  • Experience in supporting online programs would be a big plus. Especially in a higher education setting.


Physical and Other Requirements 

  • Ability to lift and/or move substantially heavy equipment (75 pounds for over 50 yards). 
  • This is a position that may be subject to varying and extended, non-standard work hours for special projects during busy times of the year. 
  • This is an on-campus position, but some travel for training and events may be required.

On-the-job training will be provided. 

This is a Part time, non-exempt position, with 10-20 hours per week expected
