About the Department

At the Louisiana State University Shreveport Police Department (LSUSPD), our mission is to provide professional and responsive law enforcement services to the students, faculty, staff and community. Our goal is to provide a safe environment that contributes to a productive and successful learning and working experience on campus.
We’re looking for a dedicated Police Officer 3 to join our team that will be committed to this endeavor. In this role, you will provide a full range of police services, to include: enforcing local/ state/federal laws, responding to emergencies, investigating crimes and accidents.

Position Duties
Two years of law enforcement experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties:
As a Police Officer, you will support a safe environment through proactive patrol, emergency response, and law enforcement. In this role, you will:
Provide protective police services to students, faculty, staff and the community.
Patrol university property to include buildings and parking lots for criminal activity and university parking violations.
Respond to calls for service and assess the nature and urgency of the emergencies/situations.
Investigate incidents, accidents and suspicious activities.
Enforce laws, regulations and university rules through verbal warnings, citations or arrests.
Control traffic flow and ensure school/public safety at events and accident scenes on campus.
Operate police vehicles, assigned equipment and communication systems.
Participate in regular training to maintain Louisiana POST certification and complete mandated University system courses.
Be available to work flexible days and hours to address varied problems and missions as they arise for the betterment of the university and the safety of its occupants.
Position-Specific Details:
Compensation: A special entrance rate has been established in accordance with State Civil Service Rule 6.5(b). The special entrance rate for the Police Officer 3 position is $21.27 per hour.
