Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Fleet and Logistics Manager, the Logistics Supervisor will oversee the successful fulfillment of the order to delivery process. This role is responsible for the utilization of drivers and trucks to create capacity, maximize productivity, and ensure prompt, courteous, and efficient service to all customers.  Supervising a team of Dispatchers, Customer Service, and CDL A Drivers, this role requires the ability to exercise independent judgement and decision-making skills to ensure compliance with any company, federal, and/or state rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Promote positive company and departmental culture.
  • Oversee the routing and scheduling process for all deliveries on a day-to-day basis. 
  • Supervise a team of Dispatchers, Customer Service, and CDL A Drivers daily role responsibilities and functions.
  • Work closely with other departments to guarantee a positive internal and external customer experience including responding to requests and queries.
  • Responsible for reviewing data, verifying hours of service, and payroll entries in accordance with Federal, State, and/or FMCSA rules, laws, policies, and regulations. 
  • Analyze metrics, communicate performance, and recognize/coach based on results.
  • Has a safety-first mindset and always holds employees accountable to safe daily operations.
  • Work cooperatively with the Safety Department and enforce appropriate company policies and procedures. 
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and dispatch team to keep driver files compliant; schedule drug tests and medical certificate renewals as needed.
  • Oversee equipment availability; assigns drivers, trucks, and extra drivers when needed.
  • Direct Dispatchers to maintain consistent contact with drivers; receive and dispatch response and emergency aid when needed. 
  • Maintain after-hours and weekend availability to promptly resolve issues that may arise.
  • Ensure maximum productivity by directing routes and making decisions based on cost and efficiency. 
  • Engage third party carriers as applicable to business needs; ensure delivery and customer service expectations.
  • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve potential delivery and service issues before they result in service interruptions.
  • Communicate with maintenance shop personnel and occasionally serve as an emergency point of contact for mechanical downtime, and other issues.
  • Maintains safety files and records including training logs, safety incident reports, policies, and all regulatory documentation:
  • Partners with Accounting staff and Fleet Administrator to negotiate Auto insurance related costs. Conduct renewal and MCS-150 annual filing.
  • Responsible for maintaining or directing staff to apply for permits or certifications (over-weight permits, local or Federal permits or licenses, Canadian permits and authority, equipment registrations etc.
  • Maintain roadside inspections and citations including overweight, traffic violations, DOT discrepancies, etc. Respond to Data-Q’s and monitor company scoring on various regulatory agency sites.
  • Support drivers and Dispatch staff with questions or issues involving Samsara hours of service reporting. Ensure log program is up to date and all drivers are compliant.
  • Partner with Fleet Administrator in calculating and filing quarterly fuel taxes/highway use taxes and respond to queries, audits or assigned state agency fines or violations. 
  • Evaluate new technology and process improvement opportunities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily workflow of assigned drivers. 
  • Assists in recruitment and retention activities to include interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching.
  • Supervises the execution and quality of training programs for new hires to ensure accurate and adequate operational knowledge is gained.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and feedback to staff in the department. 
  • Manage time off scheduling and usage for Dispatch Specialists and Drivers.
  • In coordination with human resources and the Logistics Manager, assists in preparing and distributing disciplinary action documentation in accordance with company policy. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Accepts accountability for self and assigned drivers regarding compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and/or company policies and procedures. 
  • Proficient with or able to quickly learn dispatch and recordkeeping systems.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and under pressure.
  • Thorough understanding of supply chain distribution and/or logistics.
  • Knowledge of Office 365 products
  • Must have after-hours and weekend availability.  

Required education and experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • At least 3+ years’ experience in logistics/transportation and people management or related field. 
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Transportation or Logistics, and/or equivalent in job related experience preferred.

Work environment and physical demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (including keyboarding).
  • Ability to stand, crouch or kneel at times.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.  

Compensation

  • The base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 annually.

Travel required

  •  The home office for this role is indicated at the top of this job description. Travel to other Ingredients Plus locations may be required as business needs arise.
