The Plant Supervisor provides daily oversight of all maintenance activity at an assigned wastewater treatment plant. This position ensures that work is coordinated across departments and that compliance and production standards are always met. The Plant Supervisor also acts as the City’s representative for contractors, manages plant facilities and safety, and evaluates processes for future automation upgrades.
*This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.*
Key responsibilities include:
Directing and coordinating all plant maintenance activities to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal standards.
Partnering with Operations and Laboratory staff to troubleshoot and optimize treatment processes.
Managing the condition, safety, and security of facilities and systems.
Acting as the City’s point of contact for contractors during construction and improvement projects.
Prioritizing, scheduling, and assigning work activities for maintenance personnel.
Maintaining inventory and control of warehouse parts.
Assisting the Superintendent of Maintenance with annual budget development and tracking.
Supervising maintenance staff, including hiring, training, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
This position requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to balance technical expertise with team management.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED, and 5+ years of related experience in the industrial maintenance trade
- "OR" an equivalency of 15 years of "directly related" work experience as indicated in career position requirements.
- 4+ years of related experience in wastewater treatment operations, industrial maintenance trade, and/or directly related field of experience.
- NC Electrical License "OR" NC “I” Biological Wastewater Water Pollution Control System Operator Certification ("or" the ability to obtain within 18 months of hire date)
- Class 2 NC AWWA-WEA Maintenance Technologist Certification ("or" the ability to obtain within 18 months of hire date)
- Experience/Knowledge of NC biological wastewater treatment processes, practices, regulations, and NPDES regulations
- Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or higher, preferably in the Physical Sciences, Maintenance management/administration, Construction Management, and/or related Industrial field
- NC Grade 2 Wastewater or NC Unlimited Electrical License
- Basic knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management Systems
- Working knowledge of basic wastewater equipment, NPDES permits, and requirements
- 4+ years of Supervisory/Mgmt. experience in the wastewater industry.
