What you'll do
The Loss Mitigation Manager is responsible for leading the Loss Mitigation team to provide effective solutions to members who are seeking help with their financial challenges on share accounts and loans. Directs loss mitigation and recovery activity to meet and exceed goals for service, productivity and quality of work.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Responsible for overall results, operations effectiveness, productivity and cost effectiveness.
- Create a positive work environment and ensure optimum staffing. Provide direction and leadership to Canvas team members with emphasis on delivering excellence in member service, teamwork and achieving team goals.
- Evaluate, develop, motivate and train Canvas team members to find resolutions for delinquent share accounts and loans, taking into consideration the best interest of the credit union and its members.
- Responsible for all management functions including hiring, training, conducting monthly one-on-ones, performance management, scheduling, cross-training and succession planning, timekeeping, etc.
- Take appropriate action to resolve member issues promptly and coach Canvas team members to do the same.
- Conduct on going analysis of activities, workflow and operations with a specific strategy devised towards meeting goals and objectives.
- Assure effective and accurate processes and procedures are in place to improve efficiencies and performance.
- Recommend additional initiatives and strategies, coordinate departmental projects and programs to achieve goals and objectives.
- Monitor the status of repossession activity to ensure timely performance.
- Work directly with internal and external attorneys regarding assignment of deficiency balance collection and other related collection and legal action.
- Perform quality assurance via call monitoring to ensure that the highest degree of service and quality has been met.
- Maintain accurate reporting, appropriate tracking and measurement of department activity and results. Provide information as requested for monthly business reviews, productivity tracking, business plans, goals, staffing projections.
- Effectively communicate with Loss Mitigation Director on all facets of department activities and results.
- Stay informed on trends and developments in collections and recoveries, as well as changing rules and regulations; serve as a resource advisor for Canvas team members and management. Share knowledge with branches and headquarters on effective practices, competitive intelligence, business opportunities and needs.
- Exhibit support for the organization’s goals, values, initiatives and cost control.
- Adhere to Credit Union policies and all relevant regulations in connection with collection activity.
- Recommend and help develop and implement new policies and procedures.
- Comply with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.
- Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard member and organization assets.
- Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
- Strong people management skills; able to build and foster teamwork; coach, train and develop Canvas team members.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to explain programs, loan terms, features, policies and benefits to customers and business partners.
- Demonstrated collections and recovery proficiency and product knowledge. Strong understanding of repossessions, remarketing of collateral, and asset liquidation.
- Strong relationship building and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated track record of exceeding established goals and providing excellent customer service.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of Canvas financial products and services.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to compile data and analyze financial information for use in others’ decision making and legal purposes.
- Must be proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
- Ability to maintain confidences.
Education or Formal Training: Two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school, or equivalent work experience.
Experience: Three to five years of supervisory/managerial experience in collections, lending and/or compliance.
Current Canvas employees must be meeting performance expectations and consistently demonstrating HEART behaviors to be considered.
Other Important Information
You’ll be asked to work a flexible schedule Monday thru Saturday - 40 hours per week. You’ll use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines, and filing cabinets. The position also requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files, and flex paperclips. You may be required to bend, stoop, or stand on one leg while multiplying fractions and compounding daily, variable interest in your head. Just kidding — nobody can do that on one leg.
