Summary:
The Benefits Manager develops, implements, and oversees Blount’s employee benefits programs, ensuring they are competitive, compliant, inclusive, and meet employee needs throughout the employment lifecycle. This includes managing health, retirement, insurance plans, supplemental benefits, and wellness programs. The role also manages broker and vendor partnerships, enrollment processes, and compliance with relevant regulations. In the event of absence, the position will be filled by trained personnel.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and evolve benefits philosophy and programs to support diverse employee demographics through the entire employee lifecycle needs.
  • Research, design, and implement employee benefits packages including health insurance, retirement plans, disability insurance, and wellness benefits.
  • Partner with Sr. Benefits Specialist to ensure optimal enrollment processes for new hires and open enrollment periods, ensuring accurate and timely processing of changes and claims.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with benefit brokers and external providers, negotiating contracts to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality service.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations including ERISA, HIPAA, and ACA.
  • Provide clear, inclusive, and accessible communication to employees about benefits options; address inquiries and resolve issues.
  • Develop and maintain a monthly calendar of benefit, health & financial wellness communications tailored to Blount’s diverse workforce.
  • Develop and manage the budget for employee benefits programs.
  • Analyze benefit utilization data, identify trends, and prepare reports for management.
  • Align Benefit Strategy with organizational goals, partnering with Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Communications and Engagement to meet attraction and retention goals.
  • Evaluate and compare existing company benefits with industry benchmarks through surveys and other sources.
  • Develop specifications for new plans or modify existing plans to maintain competitive positioning and uniformity across locations.
  • Ensure benefits programs are progressive and support talent attraction and retention.
  • Collaborate with HR teams to ensure benefits programs are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to diverse workforce needs.
  • Represent Blount Fine Foods at community, civic, and professional meetings and conferences.
  • Leverage HRIS and digital platforms to streamline benefits administration and improve employee experience.
  • Track key performance indicators such as enrollment rates, utilization trends, and employee satisfaction with benefits.
  • Other responsibilities with similar skill, work conditions, and responsibilities as assigned. 
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of experience in human resources or management, or equivalent education/work experience.
  • Specialized degree in Human Resource Administration and/or professional certification by SHRM or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP).
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or multi-site environment.
  • Experience with inclusive benefits design (e.g., gender-affirming care, mental health support, family-building benefits).
  • Strong understanding of ERISA, HIPAA, ACA requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to explain complex information and build relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze data and resolve issues.
  • Organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. 
  • Proficiency in HRIS software (UKG preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite 
  •  Experience with vendor management and contract negotiation.
