Job Details

Manage and administer group benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, LTD, STD, and FSAs.

Support leaves of absence (LOA), FMLA, and reasonable accommodation requests.

Coordinate workers' comp and death claims; liaise with vendors and follow up on claim issues.

Guide employees through the Maryland State Retirement process and complete all related paperwork.

Counsel employees and retirees on benefits options and changes.
-
Maintain accurate HRIS records and ensure data transfers to vendors and payroll.

Review and reconcile monthly insurance invoices.
-
Lead benefits onboarding and offboarding, including COBRA administration.

Oversee annual open enrollment and benefits communications.
-
Ensure ACA compliance and accurate reporting (1095s, W2s).

Keep benefits info up to date on the intranet.

Support broader HR initiatives, including assisting with benefits related trainings for active employees and retirees.

Stay current on trends and laws in HR and benefits.

Prepare and maintain accurate reports, office files, and departmental records.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Communications, or related field.

At least three (3) years of benefits experience. Maryland public library or state agency experience is a plus.

Must be or become a Certified Retirement Coordinator within 3 months of hire; self-paced training is available.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Deep knowledge of benefits laws, best practices, and compliance.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Meticulous attention to detail and recordkeeping.

Ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Discretion, professionalism, and a collaborative spirit.

Proficiency in HRIS and general computer skills.

Experience working with the Maryland State Retirement & Pension System, preferred.

Notary Public certification, preferred.
-
HR/Benefits certification (SHRM, HRCI, CEBS), preferred.

Conflict resolution skills, preferred.

Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
