A DAY IN THE LIFE

Enthalpy Analytical, is part of the larger organization, Montrose Environmental Group, is comprised of over 9 laboratories servicing air, water, and soil testing.  Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.  

We are seeking an experienced and driven Group Lead to oversee our PFAS and Dioxin analytical team in a high-throughput environmental testing laboratory. The PFAS Analytical Group Lead is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the PFAS laboratory, ensuring analytical quality, team performance, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role combines expert-level proficiency in trace-level PFAS analysis using LC/MS/MS with leadership and operational management responsibilities. The Analytical Group Lead plays a central role in staff development, laboratory efficiency, client satisfaction, and adherence to environmental, health, and safety (EHS) protocols.

This position requires prior leadership experience in a high-volume production lab and a strong technical background using advanced instrumentation (e.g., LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, HRMS). Experience with EPA Methods 1633, 8327, 537.1, 533, 1613, 8290, M23, and CARB 429 preferred.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working within structured processes while building strong working relationships. Success in this role comes from combining focused, task-driven execution with open communication and a shared commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Lead and manage the PFAS and Dioxin analytical group, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality data delivery.
  • Supervise daily operations including workflow management, scheduling, and troubleshooting of methods and instruments.
  • Oversee execution and compliance of complex analytical methods, including but not limited to:
    • PFAS Methods: EPA 1633, 8327, 537.1, 533
    • Dioxin/Furan Methods: EPA 1613, 8290, Method 23, CARB 429
  • Ensure strict adherence to QA/QC protocols, method SOPs, and regulatory standards (e.g., NELAC, ISO 17025).
  • Collaborate with QA, Project Management, and other lab groups to address data quality, turnaround time, and client requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and performance management for a team of analysts.
  • Maintain and optimize instrument performance and coordinate with maintenance vendors as needed.
  • Assist in method development, validation, and implementation of new technologies and procedures.
  • Monitor KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce rework.
  • Support audits (internal, client, and regulatory) and participate in corrective/preventive action (CAPA) programs.
  • Comply with Enthalpy’s Quality Assurance Program and other policies
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Lab Director
  • Ensure staff comply with Enthalpy’s Health and Safety Plan
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

YOUR EXPERTISE & SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role in a high-volume environmental lab.
  • Hands-on experience LC-MS/MS and GC-HRMS.
  • Proven ability to manage teams, prioritize workload, and drive performance in a production environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong focus on quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with LIMS systems and electronic data deliverables.
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 or NELAP-accredited laboratory environments.
  • Demonstrated success in lean lab operations or process improvement initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of EPA regulatory methods and requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven laboratory environment.
  • Occasional extended hours or weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines.
