POSITION TITLE: EChO Consultant
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is supervised by the Program Manager of the EChO (Early Childhood Outreach) Program and works with parents/legal guardians and child care providers when a child’s behavior presents a challenge in his/her child care program.
GOALS:
- Establishes relationships with families and child care providers to collaborate as a team for the child’s well-being.
- Incorporates the various emotional, developmental, and classroom needs of the child to provide appropriate strategies to the child’s teacher and families and to make appropriate referrals.
- Provides guidance and support to families in meeting their child’s specific needs that are related to the behavior of concern.
- Creates an atmosphere where the family, child care providers, and specialized service providers form a close collaboration to best provide for the child’s needs.
- Serves as a resource to childcare providers as they implement classroom strategies recommended by the Consultant to assist the child.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Caseload for full-time equivalent position is 8-10 children, serving 20 new clients/year. Caseload variation will be determined with EChO Program Manager, based on the intensity of service needs of the families.
- Conduct intake family interviews, teacher interviews, conduct and score developmental screenings, observe in the classroom, and meet with teachers to collect information about the child.
- Makes recommendations (both written and verbal) to the child care program staff regarding the strategies to best meet the child’s needs within the classroom. Develop an Action Plan with goals agreed upon by the teacher and EChO consultant. Provide resources and support to the teachers in implementing these recommendations.
- Keep the family informed of activities in the classroom and assist the family in finding and arranging any support and services for their child.
- Be available to and respond promptly to families and childcare providers when they have concerns or questions.
- Maintains confidentiality of children and families in all aspects of work.
- Maintains thorough client records—clinical charts and database-- for each child. Write reports and correspondence as necessary. Ensures that all client files are completed upon case closure.
- Keeps Program Manager informed of clients’ status and his/her work with child care programs and community service providers.
- To report any suspected child abuse/neglect in the family or inappropriate activity in a childcare program to the supervisor immediately.
- Participate in supervision and program staff meetings. Serve as a consultant to other staff members.
- Completes any written reports or provides any data needed by the agency as requested.
- Assists in any program-wide events, including but not limited to community fairs and teacher seminars.
- Complete other agency duties, attend agency staff meetings, participate in agency-wide activities, and complete all agency paperwork in a timely fashion.
- Assist in efforts to educate the community on services and build cooperative relationships with community agencies.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s in Early Childhood, Social Work, or related field
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with young children and their families
- Current Level 11 Early Childhood Credential/TA & PD endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. http://ncicdp.org/certification-licensure/endorsements/

POSITION PREFERENCES:
- Bilingual English/Spanish speakers preferred, but not required.
SALARY RANGE: $45,000 - $54,600
HIRING RANGE: $45,000 - $49,000
