Greenwich Public Schools seeks a full-time (35 hours/week, school year) professional assistant (paraeducator) to work at Hamilton Avenue Elementary School. Professional assistants provide instructional support to students in small groups and one-to-one settings under the direction of a certified teacher. In this role, the professional assistant will provide instructional support to English Language Learners, working with them in small groups and individually to help develop their English language acquisition. Essential Functions
- Works one-on-one with students at various English proficiency levels, particularly newcomers, to further their language acquisition.
- Serves as an in-class support for mainstream teachers in courses with clusters of ELL students.
- Becomes familiar with classroom content and assists staff in executing differentiated ELL instructional practices.
- Assists in managing student behavior in order to create a safe, positive learning environment.
- Assists in administering district and state-required ELL assessments.
- Supports ELL teachers with clerical tasks (e.g. photocopying, filing, creating instructional tools under their direction, organizing materials, etc.).
- Attends in-services and other training as required.
- Performs related work as required.

Qualifications Profile
Professional assistants must possess an Associate's Degree, a passing score on the ParaPro Competency Exam, or equivalent experience. Professional assistants working with ELL students must be highly proficienty in spoken and written English; oral and written proficiency in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
