Job Summary/Profile:
This position's main purpose is to provide coverage for Life Works residential programs when regular staff has called out or has scheduled time off. Roving DSP’s will complete all the duties of the DSP position but will work in various settings depending on the need.
Roving DSP’s must be dependable, work well independently, and have exceptional communication and decision-making skills. They must be adaptable and able to work in a variety of residential homes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In a manner consistent with supporting the Life Works mission statement and values, the Roving DSP will be responsible for the following:
Regularly working in a variety of programs when the need arises based on staffing and program needs.
- Traveling to other programs in response to emerging situations or as coverage is needed.
- Works with peers to respond effectively to program needs – providing support as appropriate depending on the situation.
- Provide relief coverage to support filling open shifts at various program schedules to ensure clients /programs have adequate staffing coverage.
- Responds to situations that may arise during shifts as needed, such as client incidents, staff call outs, etc. in a supportive manner.
- Supports individuals while maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
- Assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with activities of daily living, including dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
- Prepares meals and snacks.
- Assistance with personal care
- Basic cleaning and housekeeping, and meal preparation.
- May assist and monitor clients with medications as needed
- Communicates client concerns and accomplishments to appropriate team members.
- Clear and accurate documentation of care interventions provided
- Identify and respond to any need for medical attention
- Participate in mandatory scheduled staff meeting and trainings
- Assist in client medications
- May provide transportation assistance for clients (as needed)
- Implement, as written, positive behavior support plans (PBSP)
- Perform indoor and outdoor cleaning tasks as needed around the program
- Accompany clients on outings and activities
- Anticipates client needs and delivers high quality service
- Report any suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to state reporting agency is immediately per mandated reporting policies
- Documents and communicate on the computer system as required.
- Serves as a role model of appropriate socialization, interaction, and communication skills.
- Promotes self-advocacy and choice.
- Provides mobility and transfer assistance, which may include using mechanical lift devices.
- Implements positive behavior support.
- Meet all WAC state training requirements yearly
- Other duties as assigned.
Position requirements
Education:
- High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent
Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:
- Must obtain criminal clearances as required. These could include: the Washington criminal history check, FBI criminal history check, and child abuse clearances in accordance with DSHS regulations.
- Valid driver’s license with driving record that meets agency policy.
- Must pass a drug screen.

- Must have adequate vision, reading, writing and documentation skills and hearing to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to the required schedule for the job.
