Title: Parenting Therapist I

Purpose:
Brigid Collins’s mission is to strengthen community health and resilience by providing comprehensive support to children and their families. The Parenting Academy Therapist provides support and treatment to children and their families facing a range of challenges, including behavioral issues, mental health concerns, relationship difficulties and trauma.
Using one or more evidence-based parent management training interventions, the Parenting Academy Therapist provides education, counseling and support, focusing on positive parenting techniques, coping strategies, and relationship enhancement. They work with parents and caregivers to develop personalized strategies based on family goals, values, and individual circumstances and provide dyadic parent-child therapy. In essence, the Parenting Academy Therapist plays a crucial role in promoting the emotional, behavioral, and mental well-being of children and families, helping them navigate challenges and build stronger, healthier relationships.
Compensation:
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience and skills. New hires should expect to start at $30.00 per hour.
- Applicants who can demonstrate fluency in a second language such as Spanish or Mixteco will receive a bilingual add-on of an additional $1.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct intake assessments to determine mental health needs of clients, assessing through interview, observation and screenings including completing a comprehensive evaluation family strengths and needs.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with parents/caregivers and track progress over time.
- Provide parent-child therapy and parent management training using evidence-based interventions and practices, supporting the practice and learning of positive parenting strategies, relationship enhancement, and supporting positive development and resiliency.
- Facilitate group seminars and classes to provide psychoeducation and support to parents/caregivers.
- Collaborate with other professionals and agencies to ensure coordinated services for families.
- Refer clients to community resources for additional support as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in accordance with agency policies and ethical guidelines.
- Meet and maintain standards and contract requirements for all evidence-based program quality assurance, improvement and training activities.
- Participate in regular clinical supervision as required for licensure.
- Attending agency mandatory meetings, group supervision and required training.
- Assist with screening calls for incoming referrals, as assigned.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of positive discipline, effective communication strategies, and techniques for managing challenging behaviors.
- Understanding child development stages, including cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development.
- Understanding of the needs of diverse families and ability to provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered approaches.
- Strong active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution skills to build rapport with parents and understand their concerns.
- Ability to effectively engage with children and parents/caregivers who have experienced adversity and trauma or are at risk.
- Being able to adjust approach to suit the unique needs of different families.
- Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively, collaboratively
and professionally communicate with parents and other professionals.
- Ability to identify and address potential problems or concerns, and to refer families to appropriate resources.
- Ability to manage time effectively, plan and implement parent-child therapy and parent management training
sessions and maintain accurate records.
- Willingness to adjust schedule and flex time to be able to meet with families when their schedules allow.
- Ability to adhere to ethical and confidentiality standards.
- Proficiency in using computers and related software for record-keeping, communication, and accessing information.
- Ability and willingness to work and travel across Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work or related field.
- Must have associate’s licensure with WA State Department of Health (LMHCA, LMFTA or SWAICL) or be able to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of required background checks.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Fluent in English. Bilingual in Spanish or Mixteco is highly desired but not required.
