About the Department

A new vacancy now exists in the Department of Law Enforcement - Port Everglades District.

Preference will be given to current BSO employees holding the Identification Technician I classification. Eligible BSO employees must have completed their probationary period by the listed closing date to be considered. If no applications from BSO employees holding the Identification Technician I  classification are received, the following candidates will also be considered for the vacancy. 

  1. Must be a current BSO employee who has successfully completed their probationary period. 
  2. Two (2) years of work experience in customer service or public contact work which must be supplemented by experience in data entry and/or use of automated office or computer systems experience.
  3. Bilingual abilities (i.e. speak, read, write, understand) in Creole, French, and/or Spanish preferred.
  4. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for requirements noted. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.

FCIC/NCIC limited access certification must be obtained within one (1) month of hiring to maintain appointment.

**This position requires the ability to work any shift including, nights, weekends, and holidays. Mandatory overtime is required on a rotational basis.** 

Position Duties

Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to monitor closed circuit television technology equipment and alarms to provide protection from outside threats, prevent cargo theft, and the importation of illegal contraband in the Port jurisdictional area. Employees in this classification, assigned to the Security Operations Center (SOC), conduct criminal history checks when necessary and are a primary source of information for Port tenants and cruise passengers.

Minimum Qualifications

The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Monitor the land perimeters and waterside areas throughout Port Everglades via closed circuit television surveillance and alarm activation.
 
Perform required notifications as instructed by the on-duty supervisors regarding unusual occurrences, security breaches and emergency situations.
 
Maintain radio communications with BSO Central Dispatch (CDC).
 
Maintain specific District Office keys and issue to authorized personnel only.
 
Conduct camera scan surveillance of land perimeters and waterside areas throughout Port Everglades and notate on SOC Daily Log.
 
Utilize the radio system to contact personnel as needed, broadcast security breaches and emergency information as determined.
 
Conducts appropriate background and criminal history checks by accessing FCIC/NCIC and DAVID.
 
Reviews applications for completion and appropriate documentation and verifies all applicants are employed by a Port Everglades company; assigns type of identification using defined guidelines for access and security and/or clearance level.
 
Photographs employees, inputs employee's personal data, and generates a photo
identification using an automated system; schedules and arranges appointments to process and issue photo identifications.
 
Receives and processes payments; balances and reconciles payments with receipts of assigned cash register.
 
Assists the public, gives standard information and explains well-defined rules, and assists in resolving complaints via telephone, ascertaining the nature of the call.
 
Responds to inquiries concerning transactions; provides resolution, information or direction accordingly.
 
Retrieves data from a wide variety of formats, i.e., computer files, reports, records, forms, documents; compiles, prepares, and submits logs, memoranda and or other documentation.
 
Operates various office equipment, i.e., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
 
Assists other unit personnel and performs a wide variety of administrative duties in supporting efficient functioning of the unit, i.e., clerical duties, receiving and sorting mail, copying materials.
 
Performs related duties as directed.
 
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.

Other Qualifications

Applicants who qualify will be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to evaluation of training and experience; written test; computer based test; interview; polygraph examination; psychological evaluation; employment record, fingerprint and background check; medical examination; and drug screen.
