Essential Duties
- Assist with planning, organizing, promoting, staffing, evaluating, and reporting on department activities and special events to include managing program registration; maintain and update website, calendar, and recreation software; assist in creating and managing public relations initiatives and communications; create brochures, newsletters, press releases, mass mailings, and flyers; determine viability and demand for programs through research and network
- Account for and report on expenditures and revenues associated with department budget (g., number of families at pool during the season); assist with yearly budget preparation; manage payroll; assist with preparation of bid specifications and proposals for services.
- Assist with recruitment and hiring; provide supervision, training, direction and support for seasonal staff of approximately 90 employees; communicate safety standards, work expectations and priorities.
- Respond to resident inquiries, complaints or requests in person, over the telephone, or electronic mail; identify and address potential problems or issues; take corrective action or recommend action; provide support to user groups to meet their recreational site needs.
- Assist youth and adult organizations, cultural groups, civic clubs, and others in use of facilities; manage and schedule facility rentals; perform outreach and networking with community agencies and participate on boards and committees to promote common interest
- Effectively communicate with other departments, including Public Works, Police, and Electric to coordinate all requests from outside agencies or organizations hosting events in the Borough; serves as point-of-contact for internal and external customers to coordinate requests and needs for events
Experience and Education
Preferred qualifications for the position are completion of a Bachelor’s degree in recreation, leisure services or the equivalent from an accredited educational institution and a minimum of two (2) years (cumulative experience) planning and conducting community recreation programs and/or assisting in projects.
Minimum requirements:
Associate degree in recreation, leisure services or equivalent from an accredited educational institution and a minimum of four (4) years experience planning and conducting recreation programs and/or assisting in recreational projects; or, five (5) or more years experience in managing events or recreational programming.
Municipal experience preferred
Must possess and maintain a valid PA driver’s license and a good driving record.
