Description
The Circulation Supervisor and Technical Services Assistant is responsible for circulation desk operations that include the supervision of approximately 25 student workers and provision of direct service to Keuka College students and faculty at the circulation desk. This position is also responsible for opening the library daily, processing Interlibrary Loan requests, overseeing daily activities associated with Lightner Library acquisitions, performing secretarial duties, as needed, and completing other projects as assigned by the Library Director.
Essential Responsibilities:
Circulation desk
- Hires, trains, schedules, and supervises about 25 student workers.
- Uses and administers the library’s online circulation system (Polaris).
- Checks in/checks out library materials.
- Answers routine questions from patrons and directs patrons to reference librarians for more in-depth research assistance.
- Supervises shelving.
- Opens the library.
Interlibrary Loan
- Processes lending and borrowing requests.
- Sends, receives, and logs materials borrowed from and lent to other lenders on ILLiad.
- Communicates with other libraries, as needed.
- Maintains accurate Interlibrary Loan records.
Acquisitions
- Processes new books, DVDs, etc.
- Prepares book plates for gift books.
- Checks in new periodical and journal issues.
Technical Services
- Performs preliminary cataloging of new materials.
- Maintains the library stacks that involves shelf reading and identification of lost/missing items.
- Works with librarians to identify materials for weeding.
Other
- Types correspondence and bills and keeps track of associated paperwork.
- Processes and distributes mail.
- Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by the Library Director
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

Requirements
- Associate’s Degree required.
- Two years’ library experience required; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supervisory experience in library setting preferred.
- Strong customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret information and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to pay attention to detail and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and maintain accurate records
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to be sensitive to and respond to the needs and concerns of all constituents of the College including but not limited to students, faculty, college staff and the public.
- Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people with high degree of professionalism.
