Location:  Macon, GA
Department:  Residential/Day Program
Hours: Part Time  –  up to 20 hours per week and may include additional after-hours and weekends as needed.
Reports to: Vice President of Programs and Services 

 

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse of Wesley Glen Ministries, Inc. is a medical professional solely responsible for the performance of professional nursing practice to and for all individuals and staff under the services and support of WGM. This professional will observe, assess, and manage the individualized healthcare needs of the people served at Wesley Glen Ministries.

 

Qualifications / Requirements: The Registered Nurse must be board-certified, having a college degree and a license authorizing them to practice in the State of Georgia. The license must be current and always kept in good standing. The person must possess the ability to relate sensitively and warmly to people with intellectual developmental disabilities. Demonstrate evidence of emotional maturity and stabilityEvidence of excellent verbal, written and communication skillsEvidence of computer literacy. Evidence of excellent human relations skills that warrant managing the health and wellbeing of others.

  • Must submit to a DBHDD criminal background check and be cleared for employment. 
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. 
  • Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification. 
  • Must have the ability to listen and understand the needs of the adults served.
  • Ability to meet and handle the public with tact and poise.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
  • Ability to understand and consistently implement policies and procedures of the Agency.
  • Ability to show sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the service population.

 Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the development of the Pre-Individual Service plan (ISP) for people with HRST Level 3 and above as it relates to the individual’s specific health and wellness needs and desires.
  • Attends the ISP meeting as needed.
  • Reviews and assesses all medical documentation/ paperwork related to people served at Wesley Glen Ministries.
  • Provides feedback on medical documentation within the parameters of the Registered Nurse’s licensure.
  • Health Risk Screening Tool (HRST) input and monitoring for people rated three or above.
  • Monitors that all doctor appointments are attended to for people with HRST Level 3 and above. 
  • Reviews all medical paperwork for people with HRST Level 3 and above. Manage follow-ups or referrals from physicians. 
  • Available to consult and provide feedback for all residents, regardless of HRST rating. 
  • Monitor required health tracking for people with HRST Level 3 and above.
  • Monitor incident reports that are related to health concerns and /or medication errors. Provide follow-up as needed. 
  • Monitor medications, prescriptions, and Medication Administration Record Sheets (MARS) quarterly and as needed. 
  • Completes Healthcare Plans per DBHDD requirements.
  • Trains staff in Proxy Care, Medication Management, Health Care Plans, and other health-related topics as needed. 
  • Performs Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) assessment as needed.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

 

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Duties may include repetitive hand motions such as typing.
  • Duties may include bending, stooping or kneeling for various durations of time.
  • Duties may occasionally include overhead work, reaching, pulling and pushing items.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. 
  • Duties include some travel.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Ability to speak clearly so others can understand.
