About the Department
The Maintenance & Repair Worker - NDOT is an entry-level position in the Roads Division of the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT). Employee works as a member of a maintenance or construction crew performing a wide variety of laboring and semi-skilled duties associated with the maintenance, construction, repair, cleaning and upkeep of county streets, roads and public rights-of-way. Work schedules may be morning, afternoon or evening shifts and could also consist of weekends and holidays.
Position Duties
- Maintains public right-of-ways, bridges, traffic signs, and control devices, and/or related structures.
- Operates various hand and power tools.
- Prepares sub-grade for paving, mixing, placing, and finishing concrete and asphalt pavement.
- Repairs roads, bridges, sidewalk and related structures.
- Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
- Installs and maintains guardrails, traffic signs, and control devices.
- Patches concrete and asphalt pavement.
- Conducts preventative maintenance inspections.
- Operates, tows, or transports equipment or commercial motor vehicles.
- Operates chain saws, weed eaters or perform other potentially dangerous functions requiring skill and dexterity.
- Cleans, sweeps, flushes, removes debris from streets and right-of-ways.
- Removes all litter from the ground as required.
- Salts and shovels snow and ice along public rights-of-way and public property during inclement weather.
- Assists during Special Events
Minimum Qualifications
Eighth Grade Education and experience in construction, laboring, maintenance or related field.
LICENSE REQUIRED:
Valid Driver License
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Other Qualifications
- Class "B" or Higher Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
