The Food Access Manager is responsible for oversight of the daily operations of SPFC's client and community-facing food programs. The Food Access Manager supervises staff and volunteers in the areas of client intake and the FRESH Pantry Indoor Choice, including scheduling and training. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable guidelines and policies and resolving questions and conflicts related to volunteers or clients. Reports to the Director of Food Access. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Leads and schedules direct staff and oversees scheduling of volunteers, to ensure adequate coverage for program needs. 
  • Hires and trains new staff members; conducts performance reviews of direct reports.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead staff, logistics, systems, and processes related to the successful day-to-day execution of We Help services. 
  • Understand best practices for program delivery and recommend long-term strategies to ensure all food programs are client-centered, accessible, and responsive to the nutritional needs of the communities served. 
  • Support the Director in the implementation of specialized food programs as needed. 
  • Effectively manage client interactions and implement de-escalation techniques to support a dignified, welcoming, environment. 
  • Work in collaboration with the We Help Warehouse team to support the client-facing pantry. 
  • Management of USDA program: Reporting, compliance, collection of client data, record keeping, attend Annual Training, coordinate and implement required staff and volunteer training.
  • Ensure compliance with all required regulations regarding food and non-food safety and storage; facilities (e.g., elevator, loading dock); sanitation codes; USDA requirements; and other relevant regulations. Ensure all food and non-food items are handled, stored, and distributed in a safe and sanitary manner. Follow and maintain all health and sanitation codes. 
  • Work in collaboration with Navigation team to ensure that We Help team members, volunteers, and clients receive updates about available resources.
  • Recommend policies and procedures related to food, staff, and volunteer safety.
  • Utilize client database system to track all services provided and provide a monthly summary to the leadership team. 
  • Partners with Volunteer Services team in the onboarding of new volunteers.
  • Manages program volunteers, including scheduling, onboarding, training, daily huddles, problem resolution, and relationship cultivation. Assist with volunteer survey and act on results.
  • Ensure volunteer scheduling supports program needs; provide direct client services and assist in the pantry as needed.
  • Manage client intake and program flow, minimizing client wait times. 
  • Ensure partnership with security team is successful and notify leadership of any changes or concerns. 
  • Attend and participate in agency events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Strong relationship-building skills with both internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and volunteers and de-escalate situations when needed.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to prioritize inter- and cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Capability to use a broad range of technology.
  • Commitment to and modeling of St. Petersburg Free Clinic mission and values.
  • Database experience or knowledge preferable. 
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

Education & Experience:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree strongly preferred. 
  • Have a valid, clean Florida driver’s license. Ability to drive cargo van preferred.  
  • Knowledge of public assistance, social services, and other local resources available to clients.  
  • 1-3 years’ experience in the social service field, working with clients facing barriers or challenges.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, and equipment used in warehouse operation preferred. 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
  • SPFC is a Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.
