Job Summary: The Referral Intake Assistant is responsible for obtaining new patient demographic and financial information and entering into database. Obtains insurance authorization and eligibility for initial evaluation, schedules initial appointment, obtains patient records, and mails new patient information packet. Supports the department Performance Improvement program through proactive involvement in a Self-Managed Work Team. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Minimum three years clerical or secretarial experience in a medical setting. Insurance verification, scheduling or billing experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer software and spreadsheets (excel, word, PowerPoint), and other software programs necessary to the position.  Able to: relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others, be assertive and consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, collaborate; accept direction. Able to: communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to: hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary to position.
