Job Summary:
The Educational Audiologist works within school systems to support students with hearing loss or auditory processing difficulties. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to ensure students receive appropriate audiological services and accommodations, enabling them to access the educational curriculum effectively.
Required Documents
Qualifications:
• Master’s or Doctoral degree (Au.D. or Ph.D.) in Audiology.
• Valid state licensure in Audiology.
• Certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA CCC-A) or the American Board of Audiology (ABA) preferred.
• Certification as an Educational Audiologist (if required by state or district).
• Experience working with children in educational settings preferred.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Work Environment:
• Primarily school-based with travel to various school sites. Transportation required
• May require occasional evening meetings or consultations.
• Interaction with students, educators, administrators, and families.
Requirements / Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive audiological and auditory processing evaluations to identify hearing and auditory processing disorders in school-aged children.
• Recommend and assist with the selection, fitting, and management of hearing assistive technology (e.g., hearing aids, FM/DM systems, soundfield amplification).
• Interpret audiological test results and communicate findings to families, educators, and other school personnel.
• Develop and implement individualized education program (IEP) goals and 504 plans related to auditory needs.
• Provide direct and consultative services to support students’ auditory access in educational settings.
• Train school staff and students on proper use and maintenance of hearing technology.
• Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, special education staff, and other professionals to develop auditory-verbal goals.
• Monitor and evaluate classroom acoustics and recommend environmental modifications
• Serve as a liaison between the school, medical providers, and community audiology services.
• Stay current with best practices and legal requirements related to audiology and special education.
