Job Responsibilities
Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including on-call and/or stand-by that could encompass various shifts, weekends, holidays, Institute emergencies, and times other than normal work schedules.
Responsibilities:
- Receive goods and supplies purchased by the Institute. This includes:
- Maintain shipping and receiving records, including electronic data entry.
- Verify packing slip against purchase orders.
- Unload incoming deliveries, process purchase orders and sort items for delivery.
- Check items in order to detect lost and damaged goods.
- Maintain the receiving records in our digital database system.
- Answer inquires regarding purchased items.
- Maintain warehouse and dock organization, as well as workstation area to ensure cleanliness and safety.
- Contact service representatives from Freight companies for service issues.
- Assist with deliveries as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-2 years of experience in warehouse activities, customer service, or similar field.
- The individual hired for this position will be required to have a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check. Please refer to RIT's Vehicle and Driver Safety Procedures for details regarding what is considered in an MVR review.
- Strong customer service skills with ability to establish professional and welcoming reception of in person, phone and email/electronic contacts.
- Ability to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals.
- Computer competence using Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Windows) and enterprise systems utilized by RIT and FMS; strong working knowledge of and experience in utilizing databases and spreadsheets.
- Ability to take initiative, plan, prioritize, and execute a variety of projects that must be completed simultaneously and on time; to adjust to changing priorities and challenges in a busy environment; to work independently with minimal direction; to follow oral and written instructions; to make decisions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills. Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, and cooperativeness.
- Knowledgeable and skilled in material handling equipment such as forklifts and power pallet jacks.

The Shipping & Receiving Assistant is part of the FMS Shipping & Receiving team who are responsible for ensuring that all incoming and outgoing packages get delivered promptly and efficiently; managing RIT fleet vehicles, coordinating furniture moves; and maintaining and organizing the warehouse and boneyard.
