Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not supervise or directly manage a team.
Position Summary
The Switcher is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers within the facility. Operating in a fast-paced environment, the Switcher moves trailers from dock to dock and provides support to dock and labor teams as needed. This role is critical in maintaining the flow of operations across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Safely operate and maneuver 18-wheelers between docks across the facility
Maintain communication with dock crews, drivers, and other switchers to coordinate trailer movement
Conduct yard checks and update management as needed
Operate fuel truck when necessary
Assist with dock work and labor tasks as directed
Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year experience operating a switcher truck or OTR trailer
Valid driver’s license with driving privileges in the applicable state
Reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking in a team environment
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Job Setting & Physical Demands
Primarily an outdoor role, with occasional work in indoor settings for administrative tasks
Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and allergens
Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and twisting
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted
Occasional work at heights, including on scaffolding
Ability to operate all necessary equipment and machinery safely and effectively
