Provides high quality imaging to support positive patient outcomes. Works directly with all aspects of radiology team, clinical and administrative. Responsible and accountable; following our hospital core values, service standards, and mission. Embraces the Plane Tree philosophy of care. Continuously provides patient care in accordance with JCAHO and OSHA requirements and standards.
Responsibilities
. Reviews patient schedules before patients arrives.
2. Demonstrates a proactive approach in confirming the patients arrival.
3. Appropriately choose(s) correct patient based on schedule and priority.
4. Review scripts and all pertinent prior studies,images, dates and notes.
A. Check authorization when necessary.
B. Check and review blood work when necessary.
5. Confirm patient identification by checking ID wristband and asking patient to spell last name and provide D.O.B.
6.Collect clinical/medical history from patient:
A. Confirm the ordered test and laterality/body part
B. Ask why they are here for the exam.
C. Explain the exam to the patient in simple terms.
D. If necessary, call ordering physician for new script (s) or confirmation/explanation of test ordered.
E. Amend requisition to reflect new/changed order and cancel incorrect order.
F. Apply appropriate screening questions for MRI safety following departments policies and procedures.
G. Inquire about pregnancy when applicable.
7. Perform exam according to diagnosis, patient history, and protocol.
8. Provide as much comfort to the patient as possible during exam.
A. Is able to recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies .
B. Knowledgeable regarding radiation safety and protection.
9. Check all imaging before releasing the patient.
10. Input information to Meditech, including taken status, depart, and billing.
11. Input all clinical information into PACS/ARIS portal and check that all images were sent.
A. Input all necessary clinical information into our MagView program including but not limited to medical history and prior study information.
B. Responsible to upload outside imaging and reports into our PACS system and documenting in film management spreadsheet.
12. Appropriate communication should take place depending on the priority and findings of the exam.
13. All technical & clinical aspects should be communicated through the technologist.
14. Provide communication about any delays to patient.
15. When tech aide is not available technologists will stock gowns/robes. Change and prepare patients for exams.
16. Perform QA/QC tests and understand limits.
17. Trouble shoot any issues and appropriately communicate any concerns,issues, and/or questions you may have to the administrative chief in a timely manner.
18. Prepare cd's for patients to take.
19. Daily room ready procedures:
A. All equipment should be checked to be in good working order (daily)
B. All equipment should be properly stored and placed in a common area that supports the team as a whole.
C. Exam rooms should be clean and free of debris.
D. Protocol books should be located in common area conducive to supporting the team.
E. Medical supplies should be up to date and stocked appropriately.
F. Competent in start up and shut down procedures, including power outages.
20. Report to work prior to shift start time.
A. Clock in/out at scheduled time
B. Complete exception forms for pto, missed punch, missed lunch, etc.
C. Be prepared to work at assigned shift.
D. Responsible for covering different shift s when required to support the needs of the organization.
21. Follow all hospital policies.
22. File appropriate incident reports by the end of your shift. Note in Meditech when necessary.
23. Support all staff throughout the organization/department.
24. Understanding and improving areas of weakness/asking for support.
25. Responsible to train and work at all sites.
26. Responsible to communicate appropriately with radiologists, patients, and staff members.
27. Responsible to read and reply to e-mail and complete hospital assignments according to due date.
28. Responsible to attend 9 department and 9 staff meetings per year.
Qualifications
Graduated from an accredited radiologic technologist training program approved by the AMA.
Maintain license and registry with the ARRT and current CPR required.
Advanced registration required upon hire or within 1 year of hire date.
