Position Title: Head Girls Wrestling Coach – Junior High
Reports To: Athletic Director (in conjunction with the Junior High Principal)
Supervises: Assistant coaches, student-athletes, and support staff associated with the girls wrestling program.
Qualifications
- Ability to organize, supervise, and lead a comprehensive sports program.
- Previous successful coaching experience in wrestling or another major sport.
- Substantial knowledge of wrestling techniques, rules, and strategies, with a commitment to ongoing professional learning.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a positive role model for student-athletes through conduct, instruction, and leadership.
Job Goal
To develop, organize, and lead the junior high girls wrestling program by providing quality instruction in fundamental skills, strategy, and conditioning. The head coach will promote individual and team success while fostering sportsmanship, discipline, self-confidence, and pride in accomplishment.

- Emphasize athlete safety, character development, and academic responsibility over a “win-at-all-costs” approach.
- Commit to extended hours, including practices, meets, meetings, and travel.
- Apply sound judgment and adhere to district policies and athletic regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Develop and implement the philosophy, goals, and standards for the girls wrestling program.
- Plan and conduct effective practices and conditioning sessions.
- Oversee and coordinate the work of assistant coaches and support staff.
- Stay informed on current wrestling techniques and training methods.
Student-Athlete Development
- Serve as a mentor, promoting traits such as respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
- Monitor athletes’ academic performance and behavior.
- Communicate training rules, team policies, and expectations clearly to all athletes.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of athletes at all times, including during travel.
- Address discipline issues appropriately and involve parents as needed.
- Assist athletes in pursuing advanced wrestling opportunities, including college programs.
Administrative & Logistical Duties
- Coordinate scheduling, transportation, and facility use with the Athletic Director.
- Maintain compliance with eligibility requirements, medical clearances, and parental consent.
- Ensure proper care, storage, and inventory of wrestling equipment and uniforms.
- Manage the program’s budget within approved allocations.
- Report injuries and follow all district safety protocols.
Public Relations
- Organize preseason meetings with parents, athletes, and coaching staff.
- Promote the girls wrestling program within the school and community.
- Maintain positive relationships with parents, media, booster clubs, and officials.
- Provide accurate information to media outlets regarding schedules, results, and special events.
Other Duties
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal to ensure the success and integrity of the wrestling program.
