About the Department
The City of Caldwell is looking for a Water Technician I to join the Water Department. Individual serves as worker to repair water meters, record and report water usage; performs maintenance on water meters and lines; performs related work as required. Maintains pump and wells. Maintains chlorine levels and monitors residuals.
Position Duties
- Receives work orders for re-checks, service initiation, or discontinuance;
- Performs re-checks of meters previously read to verify accuracy, notify owners/occupants of possible problems, and check for faulty meters or distribution system malfunctions;
- Initiates service to residences and businesses and serves as customer liaison to explain billing practices and program operation;
- Disconnects services from abandoned or empty properties and for non-payment for services; and serves as department liaison to explain program billing practices, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Digs, disconnects, repairs, and replaces water meters and lines.
- Changes old or non-working meters.
- Installs meters to new properties.
- Replaces broken meter boxes and meter box lids.
- Raises or moves water meters to comply with new program requirements or ease access to information.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
- At least one (1) year of training or experience to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform the above tasks; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Possession of a current and valid driver’s license.
- Class I Water Distribution Certification issued by the State of Idaho.
- After hours on-call rotation.
- Subject to a pre-employment drug test, physical and background check.
