The Material Handler plays a critical role within the Warehouse team, performing essential logistics and inventory tasks to support production and shipping. This position involves handling large equipment and components, operating forklifts, building custom crates, and executing accurate warehouse transactions through SAP. The Material Handler works collaboratively with team members to ensure safe, timely, and precise movement of materials.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Receive incoming shipments and verify material type, quantity, and condition against purchase orders; complete accurate SAP receiving transactions.
  • Store incoming materials in designated warehouse locations using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Pick and stage components for production orders according to schedule and production demand.
  • Build custom wooden crates and boxes for large or fragile equipment, ensuring compliance with domestic and international shipping requirements.
  • Package, tag, and label products for outbound shipments; verify shipment contents and prepare required documentation.
  • Operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment safely and efficiently; maintain current forklift certification.
  • Complete accurate SAP transactions for material movement, inventory transfers, and order fulfillment.
  • Assist with regular inventory cycle counts, audits, and reconciliations; investigate and report inventory discrepancies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment; follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement activities including 5S, lean initiatives, and process improvements in the warehouse.
  • Prepare shipping paperwork and ensure accuracy of all documentation related to material handling, inventory, and logistics.
  • Collaborate with production, shipping, and other departments to ensure timely material flow and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Provide cross-functional support as needed across warehouse operations, including kitting, returns, and special material handling tasks.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork by rotating through different tasks within the warehouse based on operational needs.

When selecting candidates, we will be looking for the following:

  • High school diploma or GED. Previous work experience in a warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing environment may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment (forklift certification or ability to obtain)
  • Comfortable performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Basic computer skills; ability to use or learn inventory systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling materials and documentation
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to follow safety rules and standard operating procedure

 

Other valued, but non-essential skills, abilities, and experience include:

  • Experience using SAP or another enterprise resource planning (ERP) system
  • Prior experience building custom crates or handling large/heavy industrial equipment
  • Knowledge of international and domestic shipping requirements
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S warehouse practices
  • OSHA safety training or similar certification

 

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

 

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs frequently
  • Stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods
  • Operate forklifts and powered industrial trucks
  • Perform manual tasks such as crate building and packaging
  • Work in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and moving machinery
  • Occasional work on ladders or in outdoor/loading dock areas
  • Function in a fast-paced setting with shifting priorities
  • Must wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots
