The MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Coordinator for Catawba County Schools is responsible for managing the district's implementation of MTSS practices, which are designed to provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students.
Job Description and Responsibilities:
- System Development & Alignment: Facilitate the design, maintenance, and alignment of the MTSS framework, including academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional supports across the district.
- Professional Development: Provide evidence-based professional development and coaching for teachers, school staff, and MTSS facilitators on MTSS principles, intervention strategies, and fidelity of implementation.
- Team Facilitation: Lead or co-lead MTSS meetings within schools and at the district level, guiding data-driven problem-solving protocols and promoting collaboration between educators, administrators, counselors, and specialists.
- Data-Informed Decision Making: Oversee universal screening procedures, support teams in selecting and monitoring interventions, and ensure systematic use of data to track student progress and intervention effectiveness.
- Integration with District Initiatives: Align MTSS efforts with other district programs (such as AIG for gifted students, PBIS, and special education), ensuring coordinated, equitable access to needed supports.
- Reporting and Compliance: Prepare reports for stakeholders, analyze and communicate implementation data, and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Equity and Access: Use data to examine patterns, address disproportionality, and ensure that all students have access to timely and effective supports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, psychology, school counseling, or a related field (minimum).
- Several years of experience in teaching, school counseling, special education, or educational leadership.
- Familiarity with MTSS, intervention planning, and data analysis.
The Coordinator frequently works with both the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, collaborating to ensure all aspects of student support are integrated with the MTSS framework.
