Job Description

 

Position:     Kindergarten Special Education Teaching Assistant

 

Job Goals:

 

To support a Kindergarten classroom by assisting the teacher with classroom responsibilities.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Associates Degree Required; Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Must have experience and demonstrated ability to support young children
  • Must have experience and demonstrated ability to implement teacher-developed instructional modifications and activities
  • Must be able to coordinate with and work as a member of a team that includes special and general educators, other building staff, related service personnel, clinicians and parents.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assists with classroom management
  • Establishes emotionally supportive rapport with students
  • Ensures information is shared between teachers when assistant is primary support person or other organizational meetings, as well as professional development as determined by principal 
  • Assists Classroom teacher with implementation of curriculum.
  • Performs other related duties as delineated by teacher or other supervisor
  • May supervise drop off, dismissal, lunch and recess. 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  183 Days. 6.75-7.00 hours per day

 

REPORTS TO:  Special Education Coordinators and Building Principals

 

SALARY/BENEFITS:  Per AEA Unit D Collective Bargaining Agreement.   Eligible for benefits including health insurance, dental insurance and life insurance and Town of Arlington Retirement System.
