The Opportunity
We are seeking an energetic and engaging Physical Education Instructor to design and lead weekly physical fitness activities for our residents. In this independent contractor role, you will create safe, developmentally appropriate sessions that promote movement, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead physical education sessions 3 to 6 hours per week for small groups of adolescents and young adults in a residential setting (6 to 20 participants)
- Adapt activities to meet the varying abilities and needs of participants
- Promote safety, teamwork, and positive engagement during all activities
- Collaborate with program staff to align activities with therapeutic and educational goals
- Provide basic equipment and materials needed for instruction (as agreed upon in contract)
Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching or leading physical education, fitness, or recreational activities (experience with adolescents or young adults preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to motivate and inspire diverse participants in a supportive, respectful manner
- Knowledge of safe exercise practices and injury prevention
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Must meet Pacific Quest’s contractor requirements, including background checks, fingerprint checks, and professional liability insurance documentation

- Independent contractor position (1099)
- 3-6 hours per week on-site at Pacific Quest’s Hilo campus
- Compensation $45-60/hour based on experience
- Schedule to be arranged based on program needs and instructor availability
