Manages and oversees all Family and Medical Leave (FML) of Absence requests. Provides empathetic support and assistance to faculty and staff working through serious health conditions, birth or adoptive events and/or family medical or military situations. Determines eligibility for Leave of Absence programs, provides information, referrals and linkage to internal and external resources. Serves as subject matter expert on FML regulations, requirements and procedures. Communicates sensitive/private information with various stakeholders in a confidential and compliant manner. Interprets and applies federal and state leave of absence laws, union contracts, and university leave of absence policies (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.)
Responsibility
- Utilizes industry knowledge and experience to ensure University compliance with Family and Medical Leave regulations
- Confidentiality communicates with departments, physicians/medical providers and employees about private and/or sensitive medical information
- Utilizes multiple technology solutions to maintain a complete case record, ensure accurate leave and time off approvals and time entries and complete work tasks (including case management and claims management databases, HRIS and timekeeping systems)
- Initiates leave of absence processes, reviews medical documentation, determines employee eligibility within required time frames
- Creates and communicates approvals, denials, leave extensions, and other important information regarding leaves of absence
- Guides and assists employees on all matters regarding leaves of absence
- Collaborates and consults with parties to the claim including employees, departments, Employee and Labor Relations, HR Consultants, the ADA Office, and external suppliers to move claims toward resolution
- Utilizes independent judgment within general guidelines to approve or deny Family and Medical Leaves of Absence requests based on relevant medical information
- Coordinates and organizes all medical information and ensures that employee privacy guidelines are closely monitored and effectively executed
- Collaborate with internal IAMVS partners to coordinate leaves of absence with workers compensation claims, disability claims, accommodation requests and transitional work situations

- Manages Military and Family and Medical Leaves of Absence (FML) pursuant to the Family and Medical Leave and USERRA regulations and University policies
- Determines employee eligibility within required timeframes
- Initiates, receives, reviews, and tracks leaves of absence
- Communicates approvals, denials, leave extensions, and other important leave related information
- Creates and maintains leave of absence files and databases to ensure accurate records
- Utilizes independent judgment to approve or deny leave cases based on relevant medical information
- Coordinates and organizes all medical information and ensures employee privacy guidelines are closely monitored and effectively executed

- Collaborates with colleagues to resolve challenging leave and disability situations
- In coordination with IAMVS colleagues, provides education and training to University and Medical Center departments; serves as subject matter expert and resource for all Family and Medical Leave issues
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or 2 years of relevant experience required
Preferred Qualifications
3-4 years of relevant experience preferred
Area Specific Knowledge in Absence Managment and Disibility Managment
Keen Attention to Detail
Experience in Customer Service
Hiring range is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.
*The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
