LOCATION: West Valley Secondary Schools
WORKDAY: 8 hours a day/5 days a week/191 days a year
PURPOSE STATEMENT: This position will coordinate with counselors, teachers, administration, and the community on activities and programs that prepare students in West Valley to be career and post-secondary ready. The ideal candidate looks to build connections and relevance throughout a student's secondary experience and measures success as an implemented and successful plan of action beyond high school graduation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree
- Experience: Two years of job-related experience working in secondary or post-secondary education
- Knowledge and experience with graduation requirements, High School and Beyond Plans, Work-Based Learning, and Dual Credit (College in the High School, AP, Career and Technical Education - CTE Dual Credit)
- Experience collaborating with post-secondary institutions, local businesses, and other community organizations to provide connected opportunities and experiences for students.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Lead district-wide implementation of the High School and Beyond Plan to support student planning and success.
- Oversee Work-Based Learning programs, including Apprenticeships, Worksite Learning, and Elective Credit for Paid Work Experience.
- Coordinate and support the administration, growth, and promotion of West Valley’s Dual Credit programs.
- Collaborate with the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department on program promotion, industry and college partnerships, and professional learning communities (PLCs).
- Plan and support post-secondary connection activities such as college fairs, campus visits, military presentations, and on-the-spot college admissions events.
- Partner with colleges to manage the Guaranteed Admissions Program (GAP), including data sharing agreements, communications, and outreach to students and families.
- Support current and new programs that connect students to careers, certifications, and post-secondary education or training.
- Collaborate with the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department on program promotion, industry and college partnerships, and professional learning communities (PLCs).
- Participate in CTE-related activities, including advisory committee meetings and special projects.
- Work with school counselors and the Family Connections team on events such as financial aid nights, parent nights, graduation support, and post-secondary planning.
- Maintain and share up-to-date information with students and families about colleges, military options, career paths, employment, and apprenticeship opportunities.
- Collaborate with staff and community partners to develop non-traditional pathways for students working toward a high school diploma or GED, with a focus on long-term success.
- Organize post-secondary and business site visits and coordinate visits from college, career, and military representatives.
- Represent the district on committees and attend meetings as requested.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current in the field.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY:
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the job include: operating standard office equipment including using relevant software, preparing and maintaining accurate records, effective oral and written communication skills (with students, parents, and staff), leadership abilities, and organizational skills.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform calculations including fractions, percents, and ratios; read a variety of materials, write documents following prescribed formats, and present information to others. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the job includes concepts of grammar and punctuation, stages of child development and learning styles, and age-appropriate activities. A second language may be required.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, collate data, use job-related office equipment, and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals. Problem-solving with data requires the ability to follow prescribed guidelines. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, setting priorities, and working as part of a team. Occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assisting in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assist in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job related is performed under a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
