About the Department
The Success Coach is under general supervision of the Director of TRIO, Student Support Services (SSS) and is responsible for advising, counseling, and leading small group activities for under-prepared and disadvantaged college students. The primary focus of this position is to improve the retention of first-generation and/or low-income students who become participants in the SSS program, a grant-funded program by the U.S. Department of Education. Student Support Services provides success coaching/ counseling, tutoring, and opportunities for transferring to students from first-generation and low-income backgrounds. Student served by the program may also have disabilities.
*This is a 10 Month position*
Position Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
·Assists Project Director with overall implementation of the SSS work plan and coordinates services;
·Conducts applicant intake interviews; prepares needs assessments, develops Individualized Student Plans;
·Assists with the development and implementation of program activities which will aid participating students in their academic, career, personal, and organizational success;
·Counsels and advises a caseload of up to 160 students;
·Serves as advisor for TRIO Service Committee;
·Supports program objectives by focusing on retention and graduation of students in the program as well as successful transfer of these students to a four-year university, this may include campus tours, assistance with applications, the TRIO Transfer Academy, and scholarship assistance;
·Plans and implements educational programming, including special focus seminars about transferring, financial literacy, and success;
·Coordinates, plans, and implements transfer events for participants interested in four-year colleges and universities, including application processing into 4-year institutions. Assists students with physical visits to 4-year institutions and provides follow up on admissions;
·Supports student success by locating appropriate referrals;
·Assists with improving awareness of the college faculty and staff about the TRIO program and its’ objectives;
·Promotes and establishes recruitment, retention, and persistence efforts in compliance with the objectives set forth by the U.S. Department of Education;
·Maintains up-to-date individual student records and reports;
·Supports program’s strengths initiatives and participates in ongoing training and professional development;
·Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications

Education Minimum:
Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Education or closely related field.
Education Preferred:
Master’s degree and certification in counseling.
Experience Minimum:
Three (3) to Five (5) years’ experience counseling adults from diverse backgrounds including: at-risk, low income, first-generational backgrounds. Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Experience Preferred:
Experience working with students with disabilities; familiarity with college transfer processes; familiarity with college financial aid access; experience working in a TRIO program.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
