About the Department

The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for enhancing the visibility relationships, and internal operations of the Wake Forest Center for Active Aging through thoughtful outreach, marketing coordination, and structured community support. This role is designed to operate primarily within the Center, ensuring consistent messaging, internal capacity-building, and day-to-day continuity. The position supports program visibility, internal data tracking, and materials preparation related to accreditation and grant readiness. The Community Engagement Manager may supervise staff and reports directly to the Center Director.

Position Duties

Essential Duties and Tasks

Community Outreach and Relationship Support

  • Build and maintain relationships with community groups and local organizations through scheduled calls, email, and limited onsite engagement
  • Assist the Director in preparing for external engagements by providing updated outreach materials, program data, and promotional content
  • Represent the Center occasionally in community events when assigned, ensuring continuity of message and alignment with the Director’s guidance
Marketing and Communications
  • Manage internal communications and marketing content including flyers, newsletters, social media, and participant announcements
  • Ensure messaging reflects the Director’s voice and Town standards
  • Coordinate with instructors and staff to collect accurate program information for distribution
Sponsorships and Grant Support
  • Identify and prepare outreach materials for potential sponsors and community partners under the guidance of the Director
  • Assist with assembling supporting documents for grant applications and sponsorship reports
  • Maintain organized records of sponsor history, communications, and acknowledgment materials
Accreditation and Data Tracking
  • Support internal readiness efforts for the Center’s  accreditation by maintaining documentation and timelines
  • Assist in gathering, organizing, and updating required data such as attendance, calendars, volunteer logs, and outreach activities
  • Ensure that documentation systems are kept accurate and accessible for site visits and annual reporting
Internal Coordination and Supervision
  • Supervise the Customer Service Specialist and help ensure a welcoming and well-informed front desk experience
  • Provide internal communication support between staff and Director
  • Support culture-building within the Center through consistent presence, collaborative engagement, and participation in daily operations
Other Duties
  • Assist in planning and promoting key events and Center-wide campaigns
  • Collect and compile feedback from participants for use in program improvement and reporting
  • Participate in staff meetings, strategic planning sessions, and special assignments as directed by the Director

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, gerontology, communications, or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience in community engagement, marketing, nonprofit operations, or public administration
  • Experience working in aging services or with older adult populations is preferred
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes is a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort with digital tools including Microsoft Office & Canva
  • Ability to organize, track, and interpret data for reporting and internal use
  • Capable of working independently while remaining aligned with Director-led strategies
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a collaborative team environment

Other Qualifications

Physical Requirements

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, talking, and hearing.

Must be able to perform sedentary work, occasionally exerting up to at least 50 pounds of force and up to a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects of at least 50 pounds.

Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, operate a computer terminal, do extensive reading, utilize measuring devices, and inspect the work of others.
